Carter at 50% is the only way it could begin to make sense. I don't see a need to add him and at his current cap hit, it's a bizarre move to say the least. Makes me think some other move(s) are happening.

The bottom-6 has been a real bright spot for this team for weeks.

He is a winger at this point and his skating is gone. Seems like a good locker room guy and definitely has more than Marleau left in the tank.

There would have to be significant retention and salary going back, considering Carter is signed for next year, too.

He's played most of the season with Andreas Athanasiou and Gabriel Vilardi, deployed more in the offensive zone. He's a right shot, but I don't know how much value is in that with McCann doing so well on the power play.

Maybe you put him back at center? He was 51.2% in the dot last year. Could put him on a line with Zucker and Rodrigues, with McCann on Malkin's wing.

He's a 4th line player, he would probably be the first one to tell you.

Saw him play in Montreal, he's not going to take a shift off, very hard working player but I agree with Hextall if the rumors are true, not overpaying for him

WTF is with this team coveting terrible players? Just because they got lucky with 1 year of Ceci, doesn't mean it will happen again. Jack Johnson shakes his head at this (hopefully) rumor. We sit a better player to make room for this guy.

I think acquiring Carter means Malkin is way worse than we thought though.

What IF, now just walk through this with me, what IF they wanted to slide McCann to L2 LW as I'd heard AND want to keep BART together.

I'm not agreeing with it, mind you, but my gut says they want a C/W option to 'flex' with McCann (one at L2 LW, one at L3 C) that allows them to keep Zucker on his own line.

This is NOT me advocating the choice, but if there's retention AND Petts is going the other way, the deal also has the effect of freeing up cap space after the 2021-2022 season, when Rust and Geno and Letang are up and, no matter what happens with those three, you'd think Hextall will look to make a FA splash (the new TV deal also kicks in then, yes?).

I don't know if he's in the running for the worst forwards in the league, but I tend to agree. Not a good player. If we trade for him, it's just to fill that weird, archaic goon quota that can't/won't seem to die.

Marleau managed to make me believe everything Roenick has said about him. Which is incredible because I think Roenick is an idiot.

Seeing Marleau take the ice last like he was some kind of leader is an all time cringe mark in this team’s history.

If they get Carter at 2.5, they’ve already waived Riikola and Mr. 2 goals. That’s 2.3 right there if they go to the taxi squad. I don’t know why people assume Petts would be involved. Carter at this point is worth a lot less than he is.
