Blake should be willing to retain whatever cap hit is necessary to move Kovalchuk and/or Carter out of LA.

It's the recapture penalty he should be concerned with in regards to Carter, so he better check with him on the destination.

You mean the owner should be willing to retain whatever it necessary. That's probably not Blake's call. The problem is there aren't many examples of owners retaining 50% for multiple seasons, regardless of how good or bad a given team may be.

So you'd rather Blake just trade them for the sake of trading them, even if the returns are piss poor?

One, I think the Kings need a rebuild to once again become a cup contender. Two, cap space is an asset for a rebuilding team.

So, to me, you don’t hold out for premium picks or prospects as a condition in a deal for any of those players. Ideally, for a Carter or Kovy, you take gambles on overage prospects or RFAs to take back some salary and retain no more than 25% on the outgoing salary.

For the other guys like Martinez and Toffoli, you should accept an overage prospect and multiple 3rd or 4th round picks in a couple of drafts, zero retained salary.

If Blake can’t move Toffoli and Martinez, he’s a joke and should be fired.

Fine, if the Kings want to get better they should be willing to retain whatever it takes to trade Carter and Kovalchuk.

Better yet, fire Robitaille and Blake for making the mistake of signing Kovalchuk in the first place.

I don't see alot of cap retaining if Futa wants this team in the playoffs in a couple of years.
I don't see the Kings making the playoffs in the next two seasons. Probably doesn't happen even if they get the #1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

They could make the playoffs next year, the whole conference is pretty bad.

Wait a sec... why did I think Kevin Hayes was a 60 point player.

The guy is the same age as Toffoli and puts up less points.

If we can get a 1st, a young bottom six forward, and another pick for him I'm all for it.

Career wise he's 59 pt player, based on pts and games played, but has done that in less time. Simliar , perhaps, but I think Hayes is better player.
