Only when he's not playing.
Moose was a great backup for us when he was just a backup. He had one bad game this year where he was playing as a backup. That Isles game with the Tavares hat trick. Another game we didn't show up to play the Fishsticks like usual.
I hope Moose retires.

If he does do we have to use him as the compliance buyout? Or is the 35+ rule completely done?

I think we'd have to use the compliance buyout on him or persuade him to retire (which I doubt he'd do).

Khodobin will be a hot name in the offseason. No way Boston will be able to retain him, especially with Subban on the way up.

Good, no reason to move him. Hes a really good 4th line center who has chemistry with the other 2 4th liners

He's actually a pretty poor center and he relies on guys like Bernier and Carter to do the dirty work, who are far superior players and much more effective in their roles regardless of who plays on their line.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this.

I'm as steadfast and resolute on my anti-Gionta stance as I have ever been.

The 35+ rule is gone. We can buy him out regular.
So we'd have to use him as one of the amnesty buyouts if he retires, but we don't want him on the cap?
I doubt any other team would want him.

I think you're wrong. I think if we put him on waivers next year when he's on a two way contract he would get picked up. 11 points in 36 games this year. People wanting to scratch him for Jacob ''1 point in 16 games'' Josefson are insane. Josefson's only point came on a Gionta goal.

Just curious, but why do you guys want Moose to retire? He's a good BACKUP. Just not a good starter. He was good in most every game this season when he was playing as a backup. The only game he sucked as a backup was that game against the Pisles which was a total no show from the entire team.

82 games with two old goalies. it's not going to work imo. if brodeur gets injured again which he has done frequently for the last several years, another 14 games of moose? b/c that worked out so great for us this season (not that i am blaming him, but some of those goals were beyond soft) is that what you want? especially if the defense continues to allow high quality scoring chances.

lou needs to start looking younger in every position.

Gionta is my odd man out when everyone's healthy:

Henrique-Loktionov-Kovalchuk
Elias-Zajac-D'Agostini
Ponikarovsky-Zubrus-Clarkson
Sullivan-Carter-Bernier

Switch Zubrus and Henrique if you want.

Can you name some plausible alternatives?

Do you want Moose to retire just to open a spot for Frazee or Kinkaid?

That's one area I do fault Pete. He wouldn't give one of the kids a chance (Frazee is like 26 and barely a kid anymore, and has been with us for 8 years) when Moose was struggling. That's on Pete right there. He overplayed the **** out of Moose, and should have given Kinkaid a start. I think Moose had more confidence in Kinkaid or Frazee than himself. That's why I don't understand how Pete didn't.

i don't know of an alternative. but there needs to be some changes with this old duo. i don't trust them in an 82 game season. brodeur is constantly injured, and moose is not going to be able to come in and play 14 straight or whatever the hell it was.

Pete was too thick to give Kinkaid any starts. Although it didn't help that we couldn't score 2 goals many of the times Moose started. Moose was allowing less than 2 goals on average in his last 4 starts before the Rangers game, yet we only won half of them which is pathetic.

Hitch made Jake Allen the starter over Halak in St Louis for a little while, and sent Brian Elliott upstairs to the press box. Allen was a newcomer that just came right in, and took over. Kinkaid wasn't given that chance, and that is one criticism I have with Pete other than his overusage of Kovy/Clarkson and handling of Larsson.

I think that over an 82 game season, Pete will be more willing to give the young kids a start because the games mean less overall.

However this year the games mean way more. The difference between last place and 16th (League wide) is only 5 wins worth of points compared to last year when it was 15 wins worth.

Also, the only team that could compete with us for Khodubin is Toronto? I can't think of anyone else although you never know with Phili.
