Personally, I would take the Leafs deals over Rantanen bc it fills the needs of the Leafs plus options going forward.

Love that both players got terms and Leafs can resign Laughton if they want to within the next year.

I'm not surprised, didn't want to say anything earlier, but I know someone that does business with some hockey players (not always hockey players) and he knows Im a hockey fan and leaf fan so he calls me whenever it's with a hockey player.. Over beerss one time with Schenn (forget if both or just B) he told me he's not a Toronto fan.. lol
He usually like to troll, so never thought much of it, but seeing that quote where he didn't wanna come here makes me think he was telling me truth.

Another trade deadline in the books and while I’m overall happy with Treliving’s work, I feel there are some owed F U’s that have come to light.

He knows Marner is not walking. It's just a matter of what the salary will be. I think Rantanen's contract makes it easy for everyone. The Leafs will give him more than Rantanen so marner's ego is stroked, and the salary will still fit within the leafs' structure (i.e., less than Matthews, more than Nylander).

The Leafs should have been willing to pay that and more.

If that was the ask and Treliving said no he should be fired now. You know why Dallas traded for Rantanen? Because they're a real contender that wants to win now.

Not a pretender contender that won't make a desperate seller an offer they can't refuse.

I mean if you re a fan that's worried about the future yesterday probably made you sick.

But if you are only worried about the immdiate future, the next 4-6 years.

Yesterday was great because the defense is set, not just for the rest of this year but for the next 3 years.

We have never had a defense this deep in my 25 years watching this team.

What made me sick is the same day we received the bill for playoff tickets and next seasons renewal.
Up to 10k plus for the season, 14k plus for this year’s playoffs.
We sit 2nd last row.
It may be time to consider giving them up.
