Its pretty simple for rantanen: only trade for him as a rental for now with the option to sign him once playoffs are done.

Trade would be futures based only.

You cant resign him now or else marner/tavares get awkward because that means marner is gone most likely

Ok, I will bite. I'd go for Ranntanen if they are committed to walking away from Marner (no Knies in any trade).

I'd also be willing to part with a 2nd or 3rd and a prospect for Marchand. I love those kinds of players when they arent licking peoples faces and I honestly could see him playing with a defensively responsible center like Matthews just as he did with Bergeron.

I’ve been a big Marner supporter from the beginning, but bringing in Rantanen is the only option to letting Marner walk. That would be a net positive for us.

I buy the first part of this about Knies, but not the second. Pay someone to retain and you can have Rantanen for the rest of the year without moving Marner. If Carolina wants Marner and Knies, well, that's kind of laughable.

If they flame out again in the first round Marner will walk and they’ll try to replace Tavares who has no leverage if he wants to remain a Leaf or re-sign him on the cheap.

I think they should pick one of the three. Marner has a Mem Cup and a 4N so he would be my choice if he has a decent playoffs. I’m not convinced any of them are good enough to lead a team but could be OK as secondary players.

No way Marchand costs less that a 1st Imo. I'd love for him to join though

The panic here is nuts... You have to see it from Brad's side. Still lots of attractive pieces available on the board(Murphy, Ferraro, Laughton,Rackall, Donato) and other teams are overpaying for depth players(Novak, Beauvillier, Walman)

Eventually prices have to drop as Buyers blow their wad on cheaper pieces.

Treliving doesn't have the cards.

I read it as they would either do the following

1) Knies for Rantanen extended, but then they would go to Marner and ask him to waive so they can trade him today.

2) Marner For Rantanen straight up.
