GDT: Trade Deadline Day

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
That's not what Bob said. Supposedly the Leafs know he's going to UFA, but he's unwilling to waive his NTC in a Rantanen trade so the Leafs will likely wait until the offseason and see if they can use Rantanen as Plan B - that's what Bob just said at least.
Bob said they don't want to ask him to waive his NMC, not that he won't. I'm sure many insiders have asked Ferris though and found out that he doesn't.

He also recently said that the Leafs still want to sign him but they understand that he will likely test free agency. That doesn't mean he won't remain a Leaf.

I’ve been a big Marner supporter from the beginning, but bringing in Rantanen is the only option to letting Marner walk. That would be a net positive for us.

Marner has 11 playoff goals and 52 playoff points vs Rantanen who has 34 playoff goals and 102 playoff points.

Rantanen has produced 3 X the goals and 2 X the points in the playoffs.

The upgrade is massive statistically, and that doesn't even factor in player SIZE and Style of play.

If Rantanen wants to come to Toronto, tell Mitch the bitch to #PackYourShit. Either accept a trade now to Carolina and get acclimated with a new team, or walk as a UFA on July 1, but you won't be back next season regardless

It's not even surprising he would want to. He's leaving a team with MacKinnon and likely wants to play with a top centre now that he sees that playing with Aho isn't enough.

Not many options there for him to play with him a player close to MacKinnon. Playing with Matthews as his centre is pretty alluring - moreso than Aho.

Yes, you can blame Treliving for the contracts he signed. You also blame Dubas for the contract he signed. I thought it was simple enough.

Marner wants to test UFA according to Bob McKenzie, doesn't seem he wants to remain a Leaf unless you know something the insiders don't?

Its been said over and over again that Marner wants to remain a leaf.
Same with JT

He will hit free agency if they dont come to terms. Marner and his agent havent wavered from that stance.

By the fans on here, not the media.

The media has consistently been saying he wants to test FA. The fans have this narrative he loves Toronto because he plays them like a fiddle in his interviews.

I think Marner would stay in Toronto if they overpay him and play him more than any other team will. That's not my definition of a player that wants to stay in Toronto.

Matthews has proven he's still a giant step down from Mac. Better than Aho sure, but he's certainly no Mac.

If playing with a top C is priority for Rantanen, he should be begging to go to Edmonton or Florida or Vegas

Nah, they’ve just been really unlucky every one of those playoff series, the luck is bound to turn around at some point…..
No cap space and g
What about the GM? He's supposed to be making the moves to get us better. That's what the atlantic is doing right now, making their teams better in order to go into a deep playoff run.
No cap space, not many trade assets and a core of chokers who can’t be counted on to come through in the clutch. Why blow assets when it won’t get them out of the first round ? Wait until the offseason to use the $20m+ to build a real contender.

The sound bites are generic and cliche. If Marner says he wants to get top-dollar the whole market absolutely flips out. Its bad press, looks poorly on him, and the fans will sour on him. So he tows the company line. IMO 90% chance he walks in free agency. I hope we don't extend him, and pause on extending JT until after the dust settles in free agency.

What happened to McCabe?

I'm assuming the McCabe - Tanev pairing will be kept together as they've had excellent results.
Yes, you can replace OEL with McCabe. I was moreso using OEL because McCabe has never really had top pairing minutes in his career (he's approaching that much usage this year though, I guess) so I have him pencilled in as a staple on our 2nd pairing as a fantastic #3.

I really think, now that Rielly has been playing better lately, that we should try Rielly-Tanev again and let McCabe anchor the 2nd pairing with OEL or a trade target.

Leafs can offer marner the 8th year and hopefully that gets it done around 12 per
asking him to waive his nmc now would sour the relationship so get that

Yeah but Colorado won't re-sign him, so it's not an option.

Eichel is barely a PPG centre until this season. He might be the overrated player on HF currently. Edmonton for sure, but probably no cap space. Florida is also an option that he wants.

LMAO. How are the Sabre’s the team that is adding the pick?

They really are the worst run team in sports. I hate that it ultimately will make the Sens better tho
Norris has been more productive (albeit not as healthy) than Cozens to this point in their careers and Bernard-Docker is the younger d-man with a right-hand shot. I can envision how Ottawa wins this deal in the end, but that hasn't happened just yet.

You think this guy ever did the Leafs any favours? LOL

Put it this way, I look forward to next year far more than I did this year.
Speaks to the character of the player.

Mikko Rantanen could not come to terms so he waived his NMC to allow Avs to deal him knowing they couldn't come to terms.

Marner is not that kind of player that puts his team first, and allow the Leafs to do the similar IF Marner realizes he might walk as a UFA which means his Leafs career is ending.

That's wishful thinking. He's going to aim for higher, and he'll get it from teams like Chicago who have a bucket of cash to spend to fill out their roster around Bedard.

This is disgusting. I am 61 and running out of time in my life. I have been a leaf fan since I was 3. I played my whole entire life and this team lets me down time and again. If Leafs don't do anything, I will be switching to my other team Colorado full time. If he stands pat, Tre should be fired immediately after another first round exit. What happened to "we won't be bringing back the core 4"? Yet he had a chance to move Marner before last trade deadline and now we lose him for nothing? Are you people insane to think this GM can make things better? Ask Calgary fans how that goes. This team has several holes to fill. I deserve more than this. I am tired of being treated like this as a leaf fan. I will burn my f***ing jersey on the street. I will not buy any more merch. f*** the Leafs.

So if they ask Mathews and Willy to waive and they say no .....is that Tre fault seeing how he also hands our NMC in contracts?

And why would Marner waive? He wants to be a leaf. Has always said so and if the leaf management cant agree to terms then Marner is a free agent and he has all the rights to be one. He owes the Leafs and Management nothing.

Yes. If that happens, yes.

Lmao, glad to see that kings fan is back and is now saying Eichel is better than Matthews. JFC.

Matthews had more goals last year than Eichel has had points in half of his seasons
