Post-Game Talk: Trade Deadline Day: March 7, 2025: Montreal stands pat

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

So, I see the mood here right now is similar to the one in a game thread. Half of the posters scream and complain about the Habs and the other half is making jokes and staying calm.

I wasn’t my expecting much because we aren’t even close to contend, but not expecting a purge either.

It's the same vibe as July 1st where people are having a meltdown because we aren't giving grampa Stammer a bloated contract that will hurt us down the line.

But at the time....where were we with Kulak in the standings?

Frankly, I still believe that it's nonsense to think that we should go playoffs minded with the team we have. We have no 2nd C. And we have the goaltending we have. But Hughes CLEARLY isn't thinking this way.

Don't get me wrong...I keep saying 2nd rounders are important. I would have done the deal to Winnipeg for what they go with Schenn. But CLEARLY this year, he prefers that this year will be a year of culture. Of fighting for playoffs.

Anyway, right now, it looks like it. Let's hope he helps Laval though.
We have an unplayable 2nd line and the recent winning streak was due to Suzuki averaging like 3 points a game. Besides the Canes game, we faced awful or depleted teams and still didn't dominate.

We will still be in the "mix" if we trade those two. Only 2 teams in the East aren't in the mix. Hope we don't have a party for doing what 14 teams out of 16 teams did this year.

And the other one is a top 5 player in the league. It's like saying who cares if player X has McDavid as his center, the other winger isn't good.
Pastrnak is not McDavid. Hes is not Top 5 like you claim.

Still, 60 points is pretty good playing with one really good player on your line

Don’t forget the Bruins also don’t have many defencemen that move the puck. There’s really nothing good on that team.

Either way, he’s better than other names being thrown out there like Donato and Mittelstadt.

Fans are finally into the games. Players are getting experience fighting for a spot and you’re just going to sit on your hands? No one is saying mortgage the future but at least give us a 2nd line that we can play.
Not happening, their hands are tied up and the only plausible moves they could have done, they chose not to do.

People want the dopamine hit, I get it. The Habs have 20%ish chance of making the playoffs I'd say so they want hope for the run or certainty in the form of assets at the draft

I think Hughes makes one move, don't know who it'll be though

He is 5th for points in the league playing on one of the worst offensive teams in the league. It's disingenuous to pretend that it's impossible to produce well next to Pasta even if the rest of the team stinks.

I'm okay with the Habs sitting on their hands.

Would have loved Cozens, but not sure what we'd be giving up for him.

A small addition would be fun, but I get why they don't want to buy a rental today.

Moving out Savard or Armia only makes sense if what you're getting in return is worth shaking up the team chemistry.

A hockey trade is probably what the Habs need, but trade deadline isn't a big "hockey trade" time.

It's overall boring but understandable.

Based on what Schenn got, Savard definitely worth a 2nd rounder minimum. I would pull the trigger if I were KH. Frees up a spot for a youngster as well.
