With the Nelson trade, could that mean Mittelstadt would become available? Good option for us (bridge for Hage)?

TBH, I've not seen him play often...

Yeah the only trade that makes sense to me for us is for Cozens and I don't see that happening. Too big of a deal to happen at the deadline and I don't see us giving up Hage.

It'll be a quiet day. Maybe Savard goes IMO but other than that.

I agree with this, except that i think Hage is totally in play. If the Habs are actually going for Cozens and Hage is the piece that makes the deal then i think we would have a deal in place right now. Sabres are most likely asking for a grade A prospect and a 1st rounder. We can provide that in spades.

So should we vastly overpay for someone we may not really want and/or they don't fit our club to play one playoff series? I think most want that #2C....but we need to plan accordingly.
What does that mean? We don’t “want” a better player on our second line? He’s not a nice boy so he won’t “fit” our club?

We have 103 picks. And not everyone in Laval will one day be on the Habs. It seems like many here want to save all 103 of our picks and every tradeable prospect for one huge move this summer. Hugo are allowed to make more than one trade a year.

What it means is do we trade for a #2C, who while is a good player, may not exactly fit to how we play as a team. I'm sure we could find a guy today to slide in there, but, is he exactly what we want and do we really want to pay a ridiculous price to do it.

I have no problem trading anyone to make our club better but I'm not just making moves to make moves.

It’s strange to not sell players and also not acquire players to replace Dach and Guhle.

If this is the case, it will be the second of four Trade Deadlines where Hughes sat on his hands and warmed them up.

I don’t agree with it but will defer to Hughes’ insight. So if doesn’t make any moves this summer I’ll be negatively surprised.

The “wait till summer before you criticise the GM” is an issue that persisted throughout the Bergevin era — I’m not gonna subscribe to it again. This trade deadline can be quiet, that’s fine, but not this coming summer.

I'm not giving up Hage. That tier of prospect is a no go.

The pieces I'm willing to dangle are Beck + Mailloux + Picks. Beck and Mailloux are close to being NHLers, those guys have value. Kapanen and Reinbacher makes losing those pieces a little less painful.

I really don't think we're gonna trade any veteran today. Dvorak, Savard and Armia would be the likeliest to go but we really don't have anyone ready to take their place and we already have an abundance of picks so better just keep them. I think they let Dvorak and Armia go this offseason and sign Savard for a short deal.

A trade for a 2C would be ideal but I very much doubt it happens, doesn't seem to be many available right now.
It's called a Rock and a Hard Place. The thing that bothers me is I don't see any great advantage to trying to make the post season if we don't add some significant talent. Trying to ride it out did not work for Detroit and it did not work out for Buffalo. I doubt very much that it will work out for us. We aren't ready for this and we certainly are not talented enough.

I think Habs situation in the standings motivate an acquisition to help, at least for the rest of the season. If you trade Savard for a 2nd, you bring up Reinbacher and you use that 2nd + another piece (other pick or prospect ala Kapanen) to get something useful.

You still have your 2 X 1sts and 2 X 2nds at the draft.

I absolutely hated the goal shifting, "well just wait till next XYZ he'll get something done" during the Bergevjn era. We heard that at every TDL, draft, FA for like 5 years straight. It was infuriating.

With that said, this is a sellers deadline and we're in between. I'd understand Hughes standing pat.

But this summer will be the first one where I'll actually have expectations for HuGo. We have the assets, the club is trending upward, he has to make a move to improve the team. And I'm pretty sure he recognizes that, so I'll be disappointed if we have the same team by October.
