I don't like the looks of things for Montreal here. We are running one offensive line, and plan of fighting for the playoffs with only that? Either Hughes swings for a center to drop Beck back in the AHL, or trades away a few veterans. Status quo is not it.
It’s going to be an interesting day because I really don’t know what way Hughes is going to go. If I was to make a random guess, I don’t think he does much of anything and lets the current roster try and fight for the playoffs.

The trade deadline is generally for rentals. We will not be making a trade of any significance today.

Our work to find a 2C will happen in the offseason / draft.

Today will be a very boring day for Habs fans.

That's fine but if that's all you do trade some of your expiring contracts the prices are insane and you can come out ahead

Unfortunately our only expiring contract that had any significant value was Evans, and thankfully we got him signed. Savard, Dvorak, and Armia would only bring back 4th-5th round picks. Not worth our time. They are more valuable to our playoff push than trading for a late round draft pick.

What do you want him to do? Dvo, Armia, Pez, Primeau, Gally, have no value. Savard is the interesting piece teams have already inquired about and Matheson is untouchable.
I don't think we will trade him but the very last thing on this earth that Mike Matheson is is untouchable

I don't disagree however there's no playoff push when you have one line we will finish outside the playoffs and probably outside a top 10 pick I'm willing to bet.

I’m sure they are looking to acquire a centre who fits in with their long term plans and if they can make a hockey trade they will. Those just almost rarely ever happen at the trade deadline.

This year is NOT the year to make a push for the playoffs. Management had 60-somewhat games to gauge the strengths and weaknesses of this group of players, and especially of the developing young core. It has undoubtedly improved. There's a way to explain to this young core, with Dach and Guhle out long-term, that the plan had to be altered.

I may be overreacting, but standing pat is no good in my opinion. Either find a stop-gap for Beck on the second line, or add to your young core or draft capital. DO NOT sit and do nothing.

Also nobody said you can't sell and acquire some pieces back
