I don’t hate it….we have a lot to look forward to and the real impact moves will happen during the off-season

@Miller Time Okay, here's what he said.....word for word in french.

Word for word in french, feel free to translate on your side instead of me doing it and actually taking things out of context to fit a narrative....

Yes. At Tremblant, before the season started, he told the team that their play would dictate the approach this year.

Which is consistent with what he told fans last spring.. this fall... In January... And again today...

The team/players did what they needed to do to be in a legit playoff contention spot heading into the deadline.

That includes the streak post 4 nation's, the losing streak pre 4 nation's, the Dec/Jan stretch at top 5 in the league pace and the bottom 5 pace in Oct/nov to start the season.

Consistent.

The effort they are being "rewarded" for, isn't the 5-game post 4 nation's effort, it's the whole season. That's pretty obvious, no?

If anything, the Barron/Carrier move is the only thing that's arguably a bit inconsistent from a strict interpretation of his comments to the team & fans... But I think that move fits the overall picture in that they decided Barron hadn't progressed enough and saw in Carrier an roster upgrade that fit the style/culture/need and wasn't just a short term add.

But my point is that where they are in the standings at this year's TDL is not where they were the last few years, which is why they were not sellers.

Last year's TDL, they were 8th among the Wild Card teams and 12 points out of a playoff spot.
The year before, they were 9th among the Wild Card teams and 14 pts out of a playoff spot.

This year, they are 1 point from a playoff spot. It's a different context.

How is this simple and obvious reality so hard for some to grasp?

Bigger and stronger. I think he’s gonna be solid bottom 6 player

It’s maybe more a personal preference since I’m not a big Kapanen fan
I had no idea how big both Minten and Kapanen really were so I checked hockeydb and Minten is listed at 6'2" 195lbs and Kapanen is listed at 6'2" 194lbs so both are pretty much the same height and weight.

Oh they’ll be wasted in June when he finds some other reclamation project to roll the dice on.

Why would you want the boat when you have the mystery box?
Sometimes you have to look at it through the lens of the butterfly effect.

If we would've traded for the "boat" at either of 2022 or 2023 drafts then we most likely wouldn't have been where we were in the standings last season, and probably would've missed out on Demidov.

I'd agree this summer isn't the time for a reclamation project though. In the previous offseasons it was fine since we were still a ways out, but with Demidov joining the team and Reinbacher/Fowler knocking on the door soon it's time to get an established player with certainty.

Jesus some people are whiny lmfao

Its okay to be disapointed but jesus christ you'd think we traded Demidov for a 5th.

Its fine to do nothing now but there won't be any excuses not to improve the team this summer. And I'm not talking abkut adding depth players only. Hughes will have to cough up some of our assets to improve our 2nd line.

The Nothing Happening Day. RDS was on air starting 7am (I watched in case there was a trade in the night) and they were on air all day long. A snoring fest, a nothing happening day. Did I mentionned a snoring fest?

Anyway, not that bad. No parts of that winning team (!) have been taken apart. They will play and show what they've got. Moves will be next summer, if there are moves. Going back to my life outside hockey forums.

Technically two points as they don't have the tie break.

No kidding. Never seen such a meltdown over not getting a couple of 2nd round picks. We have enough picks and prospects. Relax.

Also, anybody who seriously thought we were going to go out and get our long term 2C today was setting themselves up for disappointment. Look at the names available. Mad about not getting Cozens? Lol, really? That's an off-season move.
Nobody is mad about not getting Cozens , no help for a push no help to replace beck on the second line even if it was a cap dump for the rest of the season

Called the no man's land

Hughes is so proud of the guys for this 5 game stretch, but not proud enough to add a good young player in Zetterlund to roll a Laine-Newhook-Zetterlund line so he wants to keep Beck there for 5 minutes a game.

Makes little sense to trade a 2nd for a player who doesn't have a spot on the habs next season. And I doubt he would return a 2nd if you try to trade him again in the summer.

No picks wasted

And how many of this picks will play in the nhl?

Drafting is so overrated...

You pick 10 players and your lucky if 2 of them become nhl regular.

I think the team will play really hard as a "thank you" to Hughes. Lots of players were playing with a lot on their minds and will now be able to breathe stress free. I wouldn't be surprised seeing them go on a lil run to end the year.

I also think we're about to witness something special during this last stretch when it comes to Suzuki's production.
