Frankly, Ottawa and Leafs are better today. No doubt. Zetterlund to Ottawa? Great trade.
I like some of their moves.

And now, you can see opposition underneath us getting decimated. Which is good news. We do play some of these teams before EOS.

Toronto and Florida will be the beasts in the east. Although you never know with the Figs.

Out west, it’s going to be a slugfest.

Hughes booting it forward to the summer. Likely some of the discussions today laid the groundwork for future deals:

Kent Hughes: "I've called some teams about players. I won't mention names because they're very good players and good prospects. Those are things we'll look at more this summer."

Probably easier to make a trade happen after they know where the two first rounders are also

They made call for players that were not reportly available and they will try it again this summer.
It getting more and more obvious that we cannot pus around anymore and be afraid to give up a haul to finally land that true #1C/2C

Sorry but if it means giving up Caulfield to get someone like a TageThompson (not saying Buffalo will make him available) then you do it. Wingers are easier to find. Look around at everyone else’s center ice 1 , 2 punch and we will never win until we fix this once and for all

People didn't want to rush into major deals at the trade deadline in years 2 and 3 of a rebuild. That isn't proof of commenting in bad faith as you suggest or believing Kent Hughes is always right.

You may disagree with it, but it's not like it's some ridiculous irrational notion.
Is selling UFA players and non-core now considered a major deal? He did that (to mixed results) his first trade deadline.

So I figure you think This isn’t PlayStation, trades are hard, etc

I’m not sure how anyone can saying doing nothing is the right move

If you are trying to make the playoffs, you need a centre

If we’re not going for it, we should have sold parts like Armia and Savard given the high prices

Looks like we’ll end this year in no man’s land
What centre would you have gotten that moves the needle? The only one I can think of is Cozens and Ottawa paid a lot to get him. We don't have a Norris/Bernard Docker to give up to get anyone right now.

Sure, we got have gotten a stopgap centre. But even a guy like Scott Laughton costs the Leafs a first rounder.

As for selling, people literally think athletes and players are numbers on a scoresheet lmao. Do you know how pissed the locker room would be if we just sold guys for nothing picks that will have no impact on the org for 3-5 years? And that's what they would have been, nothing. Savard, the way he's playing doesn't get you a second. Joel Armia? Maybe the most desperate team. Don't even get me started on Dvo.

People mad at this deadline, just say you were bored and it sucks that you were bored. There was no franchise altering mistakes made today and it doesn't make Hughes a bad GM to not do anything.
