At least we didn't get Vanek, I'm okay with the moves made today. Iginla definitely brings some veteran leadership, which this team sorely needs.

I agree. DL has a bunch of UFAs to re-sign this summer. He didn't want to cripple our future with trades this season.

The Bishop trade was made so we can get into the playoffs and not kill quick doing so.

King wasn't going to be signed and we got a 4th for him

Iginla gives us an upgrade over king and a leader in the room. He is a potential threat to score some goals and dean is hoping he gets revived playing for a team that is actually playing for something. He gave up next to nothing.

Forbort, Gravel, LaDue, and Kempe have ZERO playoff games between them. McNabb only 5. Dean wants the team to get in and have the kids get some experience. He knows we aren't winning a cup but nothing beats actual playoff experience.

The part that's missing is,Dean didn't fill any holes to make this team a contender.Iginla is a depth move, not a difference maker.

I don't think any of those players were 39 years old and worse?

Maybe it gets the other guys going to carry Iginla to a Cup. We're all hoping anything can kick Kopitar in the ass to get him going. Grasping at straws, but that's where they are.

But Lecavalier was one of the reasons we got in.

Absolutely. One of the highest goal scorers for the team after he got here. More playoff goals than Lucic last year. Just saying the vet that hasn't won the Cup story line didn't end up working in 15-16.

But Lecavalier was one of the reasons we got in.

Mitchell, Gaborik and Regehr weren't rentals and they got their Cup(s). Vinny was a rental, didn't get his Cup, but as you said, was the shot in the arm we needed to at least make these playoffs. If we could get in and win a round, I wouldn't be disappointed.

Whether Iginla plays on the first line or 3rd line, if he could take some of the load off of Kopi and Carter, that would be great.

He can't make other GM's do what they don't want to do. What is Lombardi supposed to trade to fill a hole that doesn't just create another one on this current team?

I think if they had gone out in 4 or 5 quite games to SJ in 2014, Gaborik would absolutely have been a rental. He just ended up scoring too many goals for a team that watched Brown fall apart offensively during that season.

Not a single team in the NHL got a top 6 winger signed with term at the deadline. All the trades involved rentals and depth guys. Getting the type of players we need to fill the holes could not happen at the deadline, even if DL tried to make it work. You are not going to see a Larsson for Hall trade at this point in the season. If DL failed at the deadline, so did every other GM based on your standard.

You take a step back and fill a hole and be a seller. This draft is weak and Dean has a few prospects and a roster player. The Hawks seem to make it work, and Dean dumpsters drives and gives bad contracts to Gabs,Green,Brown, and of course didn't buyout Richard when he had the chance to clear the contact off the books.I hear excuses, not solutions that other clubs seem to be doing.

At this point, I know we have holes to fill, but if Kopitar can get back to his old self, i think we can make the playoffs and win a round or two. If getting Iginla may possibly give Kopitar that shot in the arm, its a deal worth making (especially considering we didn't give up much to get him).

That's cause they weren't willing to give up the assets. It's not cause their not available. Many teams that went all in are playoff teams.Kings could've made a gain and filled a position of need. They didn't.Thats all I was saying. The Kings are not better and Dean wasted a chance to be sellers and get better for next year.

So we'll go back to what I asked you that you sidestepped--what did he do wrong here? He upgraded on picks at the deadline while still giving the current team a shot.

Job on the line or not, we're a point out of the playoffs with a favorable schedule and our core in their primes, no GM is going to **** away all his assets to tank at THIS point, especially in a crappy draft.

And re: the boldfaced, literally ONE club has done this better than the Kings in the meantime. One. Pick another one and feel free to analyze, you may be shocked.

So, what's this solution you speak of? Feel free to share, since according to you, you posted it on all your other social media...

Again, who do you sell? You think any team is lining up to take Brown, Gaborik, Greene or Clifford? Who else can you sell? Shore, Dowd, Nolan, and Andreoff make around the league minimum and their cap hits can be buried in the minors. Plus, we can't trade them because we need roster players next year for dirt cheap. Lewis is the only other player that maybe has value (3rd or 4th round pick), but who knows if teams would be interested.

And you sure as hell are not selling Pearson, Toffoli or Carter. And Kopitar has a no movement clause.

So who exactly would Dean be selling?

Depends who is available and yes, those players are available for the right deal.Kopi is over paid this year for what he is paid.Everyone can be traded for the right deal. We've Merch to come up and take a spot draft picks and prospects to sweeten deals. This team isn't going to get better until you get Green and Gabs cap off this team.Richards cap doesn't help to squeeze.Dean is wasting the older players years by trying to dumpster dive and myself of actually addressing needs.

Well he gave Brown and Gaborik their contracts in the heat of contending for/winning the Cup. What else should DL have done while they were a contender?

I hear excuses, not solutions that other clubs seem to be doing.

You'll need to clarify that, because that's a little too vague. What solutions? What other clubs? What are they doing?

What would you have done?

There were a few possibilities.....

McNabb
Clague
Lintuniemi
LoVerde
1st & 2nd

for

Landeskog (50% retained.....or at least 35%)
Beauchemin (50% retained)

....or.....

Muzzin
Clague
1st & 2nd

for

Landeskog (at least 25% retained)
Beauchemin (50% retained)

...or...

Kempe (sorry, I don't see the heart in this kid)
Clague
McNabb
1st & 2nd

for

Duchene (at least 25% retained)
Beauchemin (50% retained)

The point is, DL could have put something like this together. He did not. Looking ahead to the expansion draft, it's not as if McNabb could have been protected, anyway.... so why not at least have tried to swap McNabb for Beauchemin? I don't get it.....

I'm sure plenty of teams are lining up for a $10 cap hit with 6 goals attached to it.
