yesh I don’t know.

Does North Bay hold his rights still?

I think the question is more whether he is even eligible? He was traded mid-November. I don’t think he is eligible until mid-January which is after the trade deadline. I think it is 14 months, no?

I believe the OHL rule is 13-months. Bloom should be eligible in that sense.

Re Tomasino - "Wreckless"? No. At the time, COVID-19 was a mere cough on another continent. It blew up in the months that followed. "Catastrophic"? Closer to yes. That's a LOT of picks to give up for a player, even if you win a title. To give up that many high picks for a player that was with you for two months before life shut down? That's a few kicks to the ahems.

That’s a ridiculous argument.

Should the Generals have been able to foresee months in advance that the Covid fiasco would wipe out the 2020 playoffs as well as the entire 2021 regular season and playoffs?

Oshawa was also loading up to cash in on hosting the 2021 Memorial Cup which was a major impetus for the Tommasino deal.

I’m ok with dealing a plethora of draft picks for a young stud player - - especially if said player has more than one year of eligibility remaining. Which Tommasino had.

Look at what the Hunter brothers did getting Sam Dickinson - - here’s a bag of middling draft picks for a top young player.

How have all those draft picks worked out for Niagara, anyway?
6-2nds, 3rd, 2-4ths [(without condition)] netting zero playoff games = wreckless, catastrophic

NB has rights to four OAs; Arnsby, Christopolous, Ertel, Zito.

He should not be a FA imo. He should have to go through waivers

That might be worse then the Martone/DelMastro trade :naughty:

EDIT: actually more I think about it you can recover picks Martone was already a known commodity so that deal is still worse....

But you did read it. Beck still going to Saginaw.

It's the time of year where you simultaneously can't believe everything you read online, but you can't dismiss it, either. I remember about 15ish years ago, a poster came on here and said "I talked to (Spitfire player) at a gas station and he said he was being traded." Nobody believed the poster; seemed like an odd thing to post about. The player was traded shortly after.

You really never know who's posting or what info they have. On the other hand, any random person can come on and say "Spitfires are trading (player) to Saginaw for (player)", but is doing nothing but trolling and stirring.

Grain of salt but with a refusal to fully dismiss everything.

Of course the heist of Martone PLUS a 2nd rounder is infinitely worse.

It’s laughable to suggest Oshawa should have attached “conditions” to safeguard against a global Covid shutdown. Maybe all deals should include “conditions” for a meteor strike or a zombie attack?

Someone is desperately grasping at straws in a futile attempt to refute this fact - - replete with the rong spelling of wreckless.

I agree he should have to clear waivers. But this could be one of those rules where the league has tweaked to ensure we get the best players available into this league.

Would his pro team even send him back if he had to clear waivers? Picked up by Niagara? Yikes! Probably not.

But, counter to that, if the rule was he had to clear waivers, it could have been prearranged where he’s only get sent back if Niagara deals him to a contender. That helps Niagara out by getting them extra assets.

Thats the spirit of the waiver rule to begin with.

Technically, he would already have cleared waivers. He would have been released at the deadline when NB had to get down to 4 OA’s.

Any team could have claimed him but it looks like no one did. Therefore, he would be a free agent once he cleared. This is how the players change CHL Leagues. They clear waivers and sign as a free agent with teams in one of the other two leagues.

The wrinkle in this one is instead of signing with one of the other leagues, the player signs back in his original league.

If a player clears waivers in another league, doesn’t he go through waivers in the league he chooses to play in?

Who was it a few years ago? Barrie or someone who picked up a couple goalies or players on waivers from the west and then flipped them to other OHL teams. For 15th round picks?

All that’s a little hazy for me.

Kingston picked up Bailey Brkin on waivers from Moose Jaw of the WHL and flipped him to the Soo on the same day.
November 12, 2019.

That’s one example.

Bloom would have already cleared waivers in the OHL When he was released in November. He is not re-entering the league. He’s technically out there waiting to be signed….
Yup.

I was just responding to your “this is how players change CHL leagues” “Clear waivers and sign as a free agent” comment.

I’m just pointing out that players who clear waivers here then go on waivers in the other leagues.
