I'm on the record as saying teams really do need superstars to win. But those stars can be blueliners, goalies, whatever...

Maybe our top six will be without stars. I don't know any more than anyone else here. But we still have a whack of guys on the blueline and more picks/prospects on the way. We're so far from what we'll be...

The question shouldn't be if we have enough to win a cup right now. The question should be if we're moving in the right direction and I don't see how anyone can say we aren't.
It's a process for sure..................every draft and every trade deadline, brings out the drama in some, it's just how it is............................patience is hard for sure.

But he's a 'huge question mark' instead of being seen as an awesome prospect with star potential...

"Questionable defenseman".... according to you.

You don't know this.

There are a bunch of guys in the lineup who could turn into superstars. We're too young to know yet.

-There are questions about him, but I actually like Hutson a lot. he's just not a top-end forward.

-His D+1 has sucked and he's always been meh in my opinion. Obviously, our opinions factor into what we say on here since we're not psychics

-You need the tools for that. Caufield has the shot. Slaf is probably the closest but he needs consistency. We'll see.

I think you can also win with your stars not being stars yet. This is pretty much what happened in 86 and 93. I mean LeCLair was not a star yet but he certainly was one in his prime. But in the playoffs of 93 you could see the impact he had on the game. He was WAY more impactful than a 40 points guy. In 86 you had Chelios who was not really a star yet imo. But his impact was still huge.

Slafbustky gets written off. I mean he's no McDavid but around 40 points at 19 for a big guy like him is very promising in my book.
It's easy to write a player off. That way you weren't 'drinking the kool-aid' or whatever.

But how the hell can you ignore the following?

- CC with 48 goals in his first 82 under MSL with half coming in his rookie year
- Roy consistently competing for scoring titles in the minors
- Hutson's insane stats
- Slaf's growth

Maybe none of these guys become stars or superstars. But they've all got special resumes at young ages. There's the possibility of stars emerging from that group for sure.

In 86 Richer wasn't a star yet and neither was Roy. It was a really solid team looking back. But the scoring was by committee.

Fair ish.... I think the Michkov disappointment clouds the assessment you're making quite a bit.

He parted with Romanov in year 1, a 1st & high 2nd in year two, and traded away vets like Toffoli, Chiarot, Edmundson, Allen, Monahan, etc. again, don't think there's any reason to doubt his willingness to make aggressive moves.

I loved the Romanov move, trade a hot asset for another, the only real reason I wanted Michkov.. a win win. To be fair I wanted Leonard , but certainly didn't see Reinbacher in the picture.

Richer wasn't a star and neither was Roy. It was a really solid team looking back. But the scoring was by committee.

and we were tough as nails, that team could play ANY game you wanted. The size and grit of that core was legendary, and soon after abandoned for some small fast fetish ever since our last cup run

Okay. But so what? I agree you need superstars but they don't have to be at forward. He certainly has superstar potential. And if he does turn into the real deal - ALL our forwards will benefit.

Injured and not in North America. Went right around where he was projected. Maybe not your guy but not what should be called a questionable pick.

Kotkaniemi was a questionable pick.

Roy has done nothing but comptete for minor league scoring titles. He could be a sleeper and there will be others.

Superstars aren't always obvious. They sometimes emerge over time. If Dach can stay healthy, it looks like a good group going forward.

Or... CC turns into Chris Higgins. Dach gets hurt again. Some guys bust... that could happen too. But it's so early in the rebuild that we'll have time to recover. Moroever, we have so many prospects and picks to trade with we could always trade for a vet down the road.

Hintz and Robertson pretty much came out of nowhere and they are the two best forwards of a team i'd consider having an outside chance to win the cup. Robertson first season in the AHL was not screaming elite player at all honestly.

Right.

And if we were sitting here with guys like Perezhogin I wouldn't be talking like this. But the players I mentioned have some really good minor league resumes. Would it really be a shock if one of them emerged as a star? I don't think it would.

When was the last time we had a young forward with a resume as good as CC's or Roy's or Slaf's? It's been a long time. That's three guys and we've got another high pick coming up.

No only thing you can hold against Roy is where he was drafted. He was pretty much as good as Stankoven in junior and slightly inferior in the AHL (Roy is younger) and Stankoven has been killing it in his NHL debut so far. Roy is a very good prospect with an impressive resume.

Oh boy. Why do I always have to repost this?

We did not need to do all that:

-Trade Allen instead of resigning him in 2022.
-Play Primeau More in 22-23.
-Trade Anderson at the 2022 draft for a pick.
-Don't overplay Montembeault this year.
-Don't play injured Caufield and Injured Monahan when they're injured
-Trade Monahan last year after he's actually able to recover

Etc.
Mostly garbage. For example, Monahan was injured last year. HE COULD NOT BE TRADED. Monahan was not played when he was injured, just banged up a bit. Monty was NOT overplayed. Allen was the only NHL goalie thy had in 2022.

And I don't see that happening with this team. Slaf, Ghule, RB, X, Dach, Mailloux, Struble... apart from a few players this is going to be a tough team to play against. And those smaller players will more than make up for it with scoring.

The problem with that is the habs would like to send Roy for a Laval run and you need players , so why give a player you have ?
Pez could use the ice time. And if we need another player, we can take back a worse player who MSL won't play over RHP, Ylonen, and Pez.

I think Roy will be paper transactions, but will stay up. We'll see.

Well with Tofu and Money there, I think I'm cheering for the Jets to bring it home this year.

I love what we did in trading Monahan and Allen. Would have loved a Savard trade, but we can still pull that trigger next year.

We are stacked with trade chips for 2025.

Used to support them in the playoffs but have not anymore since the Shitfilet incident and how poorly their fans acted in here and on their forum. They are continuing to trash our fan base since then so pox on their house.

Yup, they finally remembered what made them successful only a few years ago, and in 93. Big tough teams that can skate and defend can cover up for lesser goaltending until that gets figured out.
