Because we'd have nobody to play on the PP. I know Matheson makes a ton of mistakes, but he's still far and away the best (and really only) offensive dman on the team as of now.
Matheson's play on the PP is not a factor in keeping him. We can put Guhle there for now and see how he does.

We'll see. Matheson has his warts. This could affect both his current supposedly high trade value, as well as what he can get on his next contract. But for sure, Hughes seems like the type who deal him if the demands are too high. I think that's what just happened with Monahan.
Petry had plenty of warts too. He was not called Jeff Petrin for no reason. I called it for Petry a whole two years before the end of his contract. I was seeing the train coming and knowing MB i knew he would try to pass despite the warning signs. The longer Matheson do 50 points a year the more he'll think he is worth. Only way he settles for a cheap contract is if he slows down before the end of the current contract but i don't think he will. I think with the TOI he gets he'll keep doing 50 points and ask for about the same as Petry did and i would not be the one signing that contract for sure.

Stand you ground Kent, you don't need to trade a player with another year left on his contract.
KH will not trade Savard for less than a 1st. If he does i'll be the most surprised person in the province.

Yes, Petry was going to turn 34 in the first year of his new contract. Really good Hughes was able to unload it before it became an albatross, like Anderson's has become.

BUT, peak Petry was better defensively than any level of defensive play I've ever seen Matheson consistently reach. Petry was a late bloomer. So I'm still hoping Matheson can improve his defensive game. But his coverage and reads sometimes are horrendous.

I’m still lost how the oilers waited so long to trade their first and then picks up Henrique . I will go on record calling it the most bone head deadline trade of the year

What would be value worthy of trading him? Be realistic...

without knowing how the management feels about our blueline, i'm not sure. I don't care for the guy but he does provide some value here no doubt. I think next year he's passed by all the kids, then we may be kicking ourselves for not sending him off. I doubt they get offered more than a 2nd rounder at best

The way the young D talk about Savard is enough for me to keep him until next TDL. The guy will one day be the Defense coach for the Habs imo.

Trade Savard! We have 34 D!
35 but whose counting 🤣

It’s boneheaded if they don’t improve on Ceci. I’m surprised they didn’t make a bigger trade to try and get Gudas from the Ducks.

The thing I worry about Savard is his age. We decide to keep him for next year, and he loses a step or gets hurt, that's a big opportunity lost. I was against trading him before, but now I want it done.

Yea I expected they would be the most agressive to pick up one of the top d at the deadline . Look maybe I should wait till tomorrow but so far , huge fail from my point of view

They have to improve Ceci. Just getting Henrique would be like when we just got Vanek and the following year just got Petry. You either go in or you don't. Ceci in their top 4 wont cut it not against the Avs and Khights lineup and probably not against the Nucks if they land Guentzle.
