Habs have 3 UFA's and 2 RFA's currently.

RFA: Ylonen, Xhekaj
UFA: Pearson, White ...some guy named Wideman
That's fine, lots of the contenders are looking for players with terms.

The problem is that they all have cheap GMs.

Can't wait for people to get mad we don't do much of anything.
I don't know what people expect. Hughes isn't a magician; he can't trade Pearson for McDavid. He can only add by subtracting. If you can offload a deadwood player, even if you get next to nothing in return, it's a win.

I expect Hughes to be much more active around the draft and on July 1st than he will be tomorrow.

We have deadwood to move out but it doesn't have much value so Hughes should approach the deadline as an exercise in addition by subtraction. Savard might get you something useful, and Armia's recent play might entice a team looking for depth at forward to bite. I see no market for Allen or Pearson. Those will be summer moves for sure, either not being resigned or being dealt for whatever we can get just to be rid of them.

The biggest problem is our deadwood have term.

We already traded our big piece and got a first rounder.

Can't see HuGo doing a whole lot unless he gets a really good offer for Savard. Armia/Allen are possible. Maybe Pearson, Evans or Kovacevic.

One retention spot left which I expect will used be one way or another.

Yep folks better lower their expectations. Let's not forget that he already traded one player and got a 1st round pick.
It would be awesome to see Allen moved but other than that...I don't expect much. You might see a couple of additions for Laval...

Gally's mom has literally only about a year to live. If I were him my interest in playing hockey would be pretty much non-existent right now. This is the perfect time for him to retire and for a very good reason. I read that Mrs. Gallagher has perhaps 14 months and that doesn't mean they will be 14 quality months. Gally should be maximizing his time now, before her condition deteriorates.
I'm pretty sure Gally would like to lift his NMC for Vancouver or Seattle and get closer to his mom but that salary cap is so high, it's very difficult to move. I wish him the best, that disease is exactly what took my father away and I'm still angry about it 20 years later.

Ideally i'd like Hughes to get another 1st and get rid of one of the bad contracts in some way but realistically if there is a move i expect Kovacevic to be traded for a pick or perhaps a mid level prospect and that's about it.

I'm with what seems to be the consensus that the Habs won't do much if anything at all.

Sorry to hear that Paddy.

Gallagher could request a leave of absence and I don't think he would be turned down for it.

He'd go willingly to Vancouver for sure, and probably to Seattle too. But he still has term and gets paid way too much for what he brings at this point in his career. I don't see any team being willing to take on 3 more years of whatever it is Gallagher is doing at $6.5 million per. In truth, he isn't worth half that anymore. and I doubt that the Canucks, Kraken or any team is thinking that they're just a Gallagher away from a Cup. He doesn't move the needle anymore.

Just trade Savard and I'm content.
I'm fine either way. But i would not wait the deadline next year to trade him. I would probably trade him at the same date as Monahan. This means he has only 4 more months plus a camp to play with the kids and transform them into the next Raymond Bourque. That's a very short time for such a huge task. I think people overrate those 4 months + camp A LOT. I would not hesitate to trade him now if i would feel the return would be the same as next year. No reason to gamble.

Does anyone think that Pizza Mullet being a healthy scratch in favor of Ylonen was an attempt to showcase Ylonen for a trade or an indication that they might want to move Pezzetta?

Ylonen can go, Pearson White and Wideman can go. Wideman likely retires.
I'll be shocked if Ylonen is re-signed or even offered a contract. Career minor leaguer.

I don't know for you, but I find Capfriendly team awesome,

very professional, fast and reactive and precise all the time

another very helpful tweet:

They added a trades component lately. Or maybe it was there but it was never returned in google searches? nhltradetracker **** and it's cool that capfriendly is replacing it in the google searches for trades. Now they just have to replace hockeydb and their 1990 UI.

That was me. After july 1st 2025 there will be only 2 millions left to give in cash with a 10.5 millions cap hit. A scorched earth rebuild team will probably bite the bullet. And we wont have to give anything ;)
I think Price gets traded this summer. After the bonus it's $9.5 million in cash, a huge chunk of that covered by insurance, for 2 years x $10.5 million cap hit. Arizona has about $15 million in dead cap coming off their books, I think they'd jump at the chance to get Price's cap hit this summer.

Montreal takes back an actual contract, like Nick Bjugstad, in return and/or sends a mid round draft pick.

Yeah he's playing really great hockey this year and given that he'll be 34 in October of next season, injuries or a fall from grace could very well happen. Gotta cash in while the value is high.
