Y'all hate it but the optimal move is to move Matheson, his price will never ever get higher than this it's all downhill from here

I don't think this is a hot take on here. Nor do I think Hughes wont trade him if a team was actually willing to pay a high price for him.

A player who plays this many minutes against other teams best players will make mistakes but myself I want him to be on the back end through his contract

honestly I think the disconnect is about when we'll be competitive. He's 30 bro, we're not competing in any serious fashion for another 5-7 years

Well i'm glad to read i'm not insane and moving Matheson is actually something other people want too

I could see us competing in 2-4 years. Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Guhle, etc.. will be in their primes. And we'll have added other good players. Matheson could still be a good player during our window.

Hughes doesnt pull the trigger anytime anyone offers something interesting for a player. He follows his plan. Matheson isn't on the market. Like it or not, his departure would leave a huge hole in this team and would disrupt a 1st wave PP that is finally turning the corner.

Matheson will need to be traded at some point but we are not anywhere near close that time. At the end of his contract don't extend him. Don't do the same mistake as with Petry. He's not a guy you should extend for 4-5 years when he'll be 32 specially not when you have the dmen prospects we have. Extending him will be a huge mistake i'm calling it now. But we are 2 years away from that moment.

One more year of having him eat minutes until the kids are ready I have no issue with. It's not like he is 33.

He'll ask for too much for too long like Petry though. When you manage the cap there's decisions you have to make that you don't want to make but if you're not making them you end up in cap hell.

A 1st. If there's a way to get a 1st for him the same way Flyers got a 1st for Sam Walker imo you do it. If not you wait next year.
We got paid a 1st to take on Monahan with 1 year at 6million, if someone is sending us a worse player with dog shit attitude with 1 year at 4million remaining, I'd want an enticing asset to deal with that headache. Savard on his own at 50% for a 1st+cap dump expiring this year is acceptable, but I'm not taking on an extra year of that cap dump without another serious add.

Savard to the Leafs still makes the most sense. They need any type of dman and have no dmen signed passed this season besides Rielly and McCabe. The thing is, I don't think Hughes will help the Leafs by giving them a player that will be in their top 4 for so cheap for 2 years and only get a 1st.
Hate to see us helping them, but make them pay

Matheson won't move until Hutson and/or Engstrom establish themselves.
He should be moved at the end of his contract whatever Hutson is ready or not should not matter. Anyone giving 6 millions a year for 4 years to Matheson at 32 is imo dumb and that's going to be the minimum price.

We'll see. Matheson has his warts. This could affect both his current supposedly high trade value, as well as what he can get on his next contract. But for sure, Hughes seems like the type who deal him if the demands are too high. I think that's what just happened with Monahan.

Savard is not going to help them beat the Bruins and/or the Panthers. He might help them win a game or two, but that's about it. It's a pretty good shot at a 20-24 pick.

I'm also not expecting anything too crazy by the Habs in the next couple days...

Savard only if the return is a bit of an overpay, esp with another year term, and double especially if it's the Leafs
Pearson back to LA 50% retained + a 5th for their 2026 3rd, so we can have an extra 3rd each of next 3 years :naughty:
I'm thinking Allen isn't really movable anymore
And I'd move Armia only if no retention, so not very likely

If nothing else, could see us use the last retention slot as the 3rd team in a trade to gain a pick.

I heard on leafs radio this morning that the leafs inquired on Savard and the price was a 1st and Hughes was not budging. They have their price and that's that.

I also heard that leafs are sitting Nick Robertson out, so he may be traded today. I don't think the habs really need a player like him, so not really relevant for us.
If that's Hughes price, he shouldn't budge from it because they'll get it...either at this deadline, this summer or next deadline.
