Boychuk is not getting traded!!!

Barring the price comes down on defenseman (which is never does this time of year), this is the group we'll be taking into the playoffs.

Even if Boychuk hasn't committed to us by the deadline, does that mean he won't?

He's got the right (and strong incentive) to see whats out there.

Trading him is out of the question. If he is on the fence now and we wind up making a deep playoff run, it makes staying that much easier. Hell, I'll go out on a limb here... What if we go to the Cup or win it? You think hes going to jump ship?

i kind of wish we traded for jiri tlusty just so we never have to play him again. most random islander-killer in the league now that ryan malone's gone.

Just have a feeling we ae going to watch every team around us get better, even with small under the radar moves, while we do nothing. I mean we couldnt have offered a third round pick for Tlusty? He wouldnt be an improvement on Mallrat and Colin McDonald? It seems like Penguins gave up a lot for Winnik but he will be good addition for the playoffs.

Problem is that if we try to sell Boychuck, he will only be seen as a rental. Sure there are hopes for the other team to sign, but Boychuck is in the drivers seat..there are NO guarantees. Give him a 7 year front loaded contract if possible, so in his dying years, he will only be getting 2 Mill/season or something.
I know it's a foreign concept to us, but this team is trying to win. As in make the playoffs and compete for the Stanley Cup. They are not trading Boychuk for any reason, whether he's going to re-sign or not.

Anyone who advocates trading arguably the team's best defenseman while sitting in first place because "he might walk" is endorsing a loser mentality and deserves to be ignored.

Counterpoint: what if we can get a 2016 3rd, 2017 4th, and 2018 2nd for his rights? You have to make that deal. :naughty:

Only if you trade him to Edmonton, because "that 3rd will almost be a 2nd" and so on :handclap:

Did you know he rents his house to Nail Yakupov? And that they watch plays together at Old Strathcona? Also Boychuk's grandma is going to be sick for the next 2-3 years and he probably wants to move home to be closer to her (and a bit closer to John Tavares, who will be playing in Toronto by then).

Boychuk's rights to Edmonton e3

Honestly I don't think the Pens overpaid at all. Sill is a dime a dozen player and a middling pick for a decent 3rd liner who is defensively responsible who can chip in with offese occasionally. Think we could have at least matched that.

I agree with this. What's the success rate of 2nd rounders? I don't want to give the impression I've done any research, but it strikes me that using a second rounder to get a guy who will make a big impact in the NHL for you during a playoff run is a pretty good return, if you have a legit chance at a Cup, particularly if you're picking late in the round.

You're really advocating trading a third round pick in a draft where we have no 1st or 2nd round picks, so that we can upgrade the 14-15th forward slot?

We couldn't have matched, as we don't have a 2nd until 2017. But he doesn't really fit a need, anyway. He's a good third line center, but we have plenty of options for that slot, and I don't think he really brings anything that can't be handled by a player we currently have - he's not even a faceoff upgrade. With as many draft picks as we've traded away, I don't think it's prudent to be trading 2nds, unless we're getting actual upgrades or addressing needs.

LOL, I knew this was going to happen.

Once the dominoes started to fall, we'd have posters coming on here and calling for Snow to send off more picks for redundant depth players. Our fourth line consists of Matt Martin, Casey, Cizikas, and Cal Clutterbuck. Colin McDonald is a very solid 13th forward, hell Mallrat didn't look bad the other night and same with Harry Z a few weeks ago. WE HAVE DEPTH.

The Pens had Zach Sill and Craig Adams (aka garbage) on their fourth line, they ACTUALLY need bottom six depth. We don't. Same thing with the Jets.

Boychuk could return a 1st and two 2nds in Snow wanted to trade him.

I hope that first is conditional in that Sekera, sheesh LA is desperate.

Yep, but also the teams 'trailing' them like MIN and WPG made moves too.

CAL and SJ are in a pickle. Don't want to trade away picks bc of a supposed younger movement, but they are in striking distance of catching a spot. Maybe not so big for CAL, but for SJ they need to make the playoffs just to save face.

I would love to see Snow stay put. Lets see how good our young guys really are. If you can trade for a Jagr type (who I have serious doubt can play in this system) then do it. I don't want to see him giving up draft picks though. Maybe a prospect or two we won't be able to sign due to insane depth.

Okposo and Grabovski will be coming back soon enough. This team does not currently need another forward with the emerganece of Lee (kudos to you Lee fans, I didn't believe). We have Dal Colle in juniors along with a wildly hard to predict Ho Sang.

Isles are in a good spot. We don't need the Cup this year. Let the boys make a good run and get experience and hungry for next year.

You don't get that many opportunities to defend a title...I don't blame them one bit.

...and it's nice to see Carolina blow the team up before we play them on Saturday. Just get the Staal brothers out of there and we're all set...:yo:

Doubtful Snow is making a move. Prices are too high based on Isles current asset pool, ie. lack of 2015 and 2016 picks to throw away.

I agree. Snow basically already made his deadline moves when he picked up Leddy and Boychuk. There's not really much need to make anything additional, so I'm fine with standing pat. Wouldn't mind a minor move like McClement for a 5th or something along those lines.
