Cowen knies and mckenna are the young forwards, they need guys that bring some attitude to teach them how to be successful as a team, not as individuals. Tavares had his chance and failed miserably at developing the core 3 into winners, and matthews has shown very little on ice leadership.
Jenner and Dickenson aren't skilled or good skaters but have the attitude that it takes to win.
The leafs players have proven they are great losers, it's time to get guys that hate losing, maybe even go out and try and hurt someone.
The leafs don't need a young dman, they need good dmen, multiple of them. Also not just to push out benoit but also oel to the 3rd pair and McCabe and tanev to the 2nd pair.

But those players aren't free agents, and they aren't getting traded for rielly carlo and a 1st. It doesn't make any sense for Anaheim from a logical perspective.

Fair point. I'm definitely on board with going younger.

I'm just hopeful that whatever they do, they bring in some players that will allow Matthews to be used in more offensive spots rather than consistently starting him in the d-zone like they've done for the last two season.

I only saw the raddysh offer of $5.75 million. The leafs would need to offer almost $8 million just to match the take home pay.

Someone on the trade board brought up an interest scenario on the Leafs get to choose which of Boston or Philly get their 2027 pick if it's top 10. Is there any way the Leafs could strong arm 1 of the teams into trading that pick back to them under the threat of "if you don't we'll just give it to the other team".

For example, Leafs win the lottery, pick is 1st overall. They go to Philly and say we'll trade you X package of assets for that pick. If Philly declines we give the pick to Boston and Philly is left with the 2028 unprotected 1st. Obviously X package of assets would have to be more valuable than our 2028 unprotected 1st otherwise Philly would have no incentive to agree, but I would imagine it would be quite a bit less than the value of 1st overall. How believable is the bluff for either team though. Philly probably won't believe we'll just give Boston 1st overall if they don't agree, and Boston would probably prefer that we give Philly the 1st overall pick rather than trade it back to us.

If we win the 2027 lottery and have to choose which team picks Landon DuPont. Is there any chance Philly would trade that pick back to us for Knies and a 2nd under threat that we'll just give the pick to Boston and Philly gets a 2028 1st instead? We get Landon DuPont for Knies and a 2nd, Philly gets Knies and a 2nd rather than a 2028 1st. Boston gets the 2028 1st

It’s highly unlikely Drury, Graf, Krebs or Sillinger are available.

Bourque will be a tough one with Dallas’s cap situation so maybe. But that doesn’t remove the need for C’s.

Hayton might be available, but Utah may extend him until their other c’s are ready. I’d prefer a 3C with more offensive upside, and I don’t think he has much. He’s really going to be a 20-25 point guy moving forward and while he’s decent defensively, he lacks the bite we should seek.

Regenda - I would think Sharks extend, but you never know.

Not meaning to be a D just trying to understand... but what guys from within, quillan imo isnt ready to be more then a weak 4c and groulx is a good 4c or weak 3c... then there is a bunch of ahl vets.
