He really has to be better than Rielly off the hop. The Leafs can't gamble on a 9.25M x 4 player to maybe improve with a change of scenery, they are on the clock to be good this season. A player needs to earn a deal like that because of what it takes away from the rest of your club's budget and DK hasn't and has put himself under a magnifying glass because of it. One in three chance he is some version of expensive but okay, one in three he is better because of those tools, and then there is the chance we haven't even seen what bad Darnell looks like. A club that wants the physicality and has a well set up D with a hole to fill works but the Leafs are more in the triage stage this summer.
The way I see it, the plus would be to make up for the difference in salary and that Rielly may be the slightly better player. The bigger the gap, the better the plus? I personally do not think it is that much after you factor in the difference in age and the snarl Nurse brings which our D lacks.

The lack of a meaningful, additional asset (which I'd probably agree with) is a reason why it doesn't make much sense to add 1.75M x 4 for whatever an upgrade this might be in snarl and defence when it takes away offence from a blueline which arguably requires that just as much.

Trevor Moore is 31 and declining offensively, so you might be getting someone who is trending towards the third line and not a middle six.

Is there a swap of don't care players involved?

Not sure how Leafs gain a great deal here, unless there is an add from the Kings for Maccelli or Robertson?

I'm not saying Moore is a bad player, just don't see much gain.

He's a hitter, or shot blocker, or ...

Surprised Chicago hasn't re-signed Bedard yet given he's eligible for an offer sheet July 1st.

This guy was considered generational as a prospect and put up historic numbers - 23 points in the World Juniors in 7 games as a draft-eligible is insane - the next closest teammate had 11.

Wouldn't surprise me if someone throws an offersheet at him if he's not signed July 1st.

If you were GM would you do Kaprizov's deal * 7?

If he is the real deal, is he worth the same coin as Kaprizov?

No playoffs for Bedard throughout his ELC is why I'm not in favour of a rebuild here around McKenna. Not doubting that a deal eventually gets done, yet I'm also not surprised by CHI aiming to better its current situation.

Oilers could retain to make the money work. At the end of the day both players need a change of scenery. Not sure how many interested parties there are for both players.

Assuming EDM has a willingness to retain without compensation (perhaps due to Nurse actually having requested a trade)? While a change of scenery may be all well and good, I wouldn't entirely wish that as the basis for any Rielly trade. Could be right though about potentially limited markets for both players considering the contracts involved, etc.

Does it make sense to invest in a really expensive player knowing he has to be better than his last couple of years or he doesn't help your club? Great player to grab after a buyout but the biggest reason to ditch Mo is that he is not earning his deal. Adding Nurse is kind of asking for more of the same. I don't think there is much difference in the value of the two and I definitely don't see Edmonton throwing in anything extra to move the needle.

Nurse owned almost $30m with a cap hit of $9.25m. If Oilers want to move him, they will have to retain and/or sweeten big time and/or take back a bad contract. Rielly might be easier to move.

I don’t see players who are asking to be moved because they are most likely frustrated with not winning (or the situation) coming here. They want an American team which is still your best bet of winning the Cup in the Bettman era. Not another dysfunctional team.
We might have new management but they have yet to prove long term competence and that we are even on the right track to winning it all due to our many deficiencies both with what is on the roster and what is missing.

Only downside is screwing both teams internal caps doing that. Hawks match it everyone compares to Bedard and if they don't new team same issue.

Maybe a team like the Habs with most players already locked in and a need at C? 4 1sts for Bedard they likely win the cup

I’m a little curious still about Patrick Kane if I’m being honest. Wouldn’t be my first choice, but on a cheap deal, I think he’d be an interesting addition to the top 9 if he had interest in coming here for a year.

I’d bring him in. He was McKenna’s favourite player. It would be a cool way to mentor him.

Plus with Domi’s questionable return the Leafs could use some depth scoring/playmaking that could move up and down the top 9.

1. Carlo + Robertson for Stamkos + 4th from the preds --> assumes Stamkos wants to be a leaf and asks out to come here.
2. Rielly @6M for Nikushkin + Colton
3. Maccelli to Wings for 27 3rd
4. Woll + 27 CBJ 2nd to Philly for Dvorak
5. Raddysh --> 8.5M x 7
6. Ferraro --> 4.5M x 6

Run the below next year:

Mckenna - Matthews - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - Nickushkin
Cowan - Dvorak - Stamkos
Colton - Qullian - Joshua

McCabe - Raddysh
Ferraro - Tanev
OEL - Villeneuve

Stolarz (39 starts)
Hidelby (35 starts)
AA (10 starts)

Scratched: Benoit + Lorentz

In 2027-2028, graduate Danford to the team --> if Tanev is playing then hes 3RD, if hurt 2RD.

If Stamkos isnt willing to come here then see Kane as a back up option as a UFA and hope he can play that role. I like Stamkos more due to PP threat and hes a bit younger (1 year) still.

Dvorak deal if we cant get Dvorak using Woll then aim for Hayton as a backup.

Is Nurse that much worse than Rielly that Leafs would not be interested in a Rielly for Nurse plus trade ? One thing Nurse brings is snarl. Maybe a change of scenery will benefit both and bring that snarl out of Nurse? It worked with Miller who I heard did not like playing in Manhattan.

Seems like Nurse.wants to head south
