I don't want prospects or picks for Knies or not unless it's something like Frondell+4th overall which is overpayment which is what I would need to deal Knies.

In terms of anything else I would consider, a top D like Harley, Heiskanen or Werenski.

If it's not a top defenseman or insane overpayment like the Chicago package above, I have literally zero interest in the Habs magic beans.
Okay

Knies for Larkin 1 for 1

Would we do that deal?

Larkin is 30ish, same aging cycle as Matthews and Nylander. I think he has 2 more years on a fair deal left.

We would be acquiring one of the best 2Cs in the league and a player who has played great at the olympics in pressure situations.

I guess for Detroit as great as Knies is, if they deal Larkin for a non Center who plays for them?
Danielson and Kasper are supposed to be Cs but both havent accomplished much yet in the NHL
I would genuinely consider it. He's 29, turning 30 this year, so 6 years older than Knies. But he's locked up until he's 34 at a respectable $8.7 million per year and would be the ideal 2C for the rest of Matthews' and Nylander's prime, allowing you to shift Tavares to LW to fill the void left by Knies. The team would still have the money to add a 3C like Jenner or Hayton. I hate most Knies trade proposals, but established, quality centers in their prime are hard to find.

To Detroit
Matthew Knies+

To Toronto
Dylan Larkin

To San Jose
Morgan Rielly+

To Toronto
Colin Graf

Sign Booner Jenner and Eeli Tolvanen as FAs

McKenna-Matthews-Nylander
Tavares-Larkin-Graf
Cowan-Jenner-Tolvanen

That has the makings of a really friggen good top 9!

I would probably rather deal Knies for Edvinsson than Larkin now that I think on it.

But edvinsson ain't asking out unfortunately. Would still offer that as a feeler. Edvinsson looks great and should be a top 15ish D in a few years and is a top pairing

Mckenna - Matthews - XXX
XXX - Larkin - Nylander
Cowan - Tavares - XXX
Joshua - XXX - Lorentz

Becomes a lot easier to fill 1RW (tuch move Nylander up and sign Mantha to 2RW), 2LW (fair number of UFA wingers ir can move Cowan up), 3RW (fair number of options) and 4C

I would say that the Knies deal is like 2 times the Brandon Carlo cost for 5 times the player with twice the contract term. Just another typical Treliving trade.

If both parties waived to it I wonder how a Rielly for JT Miller deal would look?

I know people clown Miller a bit due to his failures recently and hes categorized as a bad leader and teammate.

However he is a guy who is believe has played C in the past, and we could use as a 2C or 2A-C with Tavares 2B-C.

If we could do Rielly for JT Miller then we dont need to use many assets for a 2C.

Can use our remaining assets on smaller adds

We could offer them 2 2nds, COL 1st, Koblar and AA, it's so much stuff, Detroit would be silly to say no.

Sorry who is this for? Is it for Larkin or Edvinsson?

Edvinsson gets automatically rejected.

Larkin well it comes down to if he wants to be a leaf or gives 3-4 teams only. If he does than yeah could do 1st + Koblar (wonder if we wpuld regret that if he breaks out).

I dont think AA has much/any real value and to Detroit hes worthless with them having top goalie prospects in Cossa, Augustine and another guy im forgetting.

Competing teams if Larkin if flexible offers:

1. Habs --> 26 1st + 27 1st + Hage + Beck (beats our offer)

2. Wild --> Yurov + 27 1st + 28 1st (probably similar value as us)

3. Philly --> 27 Leafs 1st + 26 Philly 1st + Luchenko/Nesbitt probably is better than our offer

4. Ducks --> Mctavish + Zellweger + 1st, beats our offer

5. CBJ --> Jackson Smith + 14th OA + Voronkov (beats our offer)

I dont think we can compete with other teams best case offers. Ideally Larkin has leafs and maybe 1 or 2 other contenders as his destination and forces a move out here

Edvinsson is a stud top pairing Dman at age 22.

A late 1st, 2 2nds, an AHL goalie and TLK (who is worth probably another late 1st) isnt returning Edvinsson type asset whose a core building block.

Otherwise the habs could pick up knies from us for

26 1st + 27 1st + Beck + Fowler type package

We should trade that package for Hutson or Edvinsson, it's a lot of stuff, they would be crazy to say no.

Management may have soured on JT Miller and wants to move on.

The Rangers dcore is:

Gavrikov - Fox
XXX - Borgen
Robertson - Schneider or Morrow

They have a hole at 2LD and Rielly could be a good add for them as they are also looking to retool per the letter Drury sent to fans.

They have LW depth of

Lafrenriere
Cuylle
Sykora (young guy)
Chmelar (young guy)

Center depth of

Trochek
Zibinijad

Miller can possibly play 2C or top 6LW but with the younger guys on the wing for them they could look at moving him and giving their younger players an extended look at LW spots and brining in rielly ro pair with Borgen until likely Carels or Smits (at 5th OA) is ready in 2ish years.

Agrees to disagree. Assuming you are meaning Cole hutson and not Lane,

No team would trade super high end hogh potential players who are making NHL impacts already for a bunch of meh picks and 1 decent/good prospect.

If we offered that, it would get rejected pretty easily

I think the Leafs would do that in a heartbeat.

Just throw in the towel now if thats the case.....some people will never learn, that move would literally be the same thing we did to fukt up our last rebuild with Kadri and Tavares.

But hey im sure Yzerman would love it, and so will the Red wings fans when there competitors and we're left with an aging roster🤣

Did you forget Vaakanainen exists? Robertson was their 2LD, Vaakanainen was their 3LD.

Their need isn't an offensive LD.

They are also likely moving Trochek, not Miller.

Lane Hutson 100% if we're trading all that good stuff.
