GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

I thought this was something that could make sense. I wonder about Bourque + 7th... not very exciting though.

I think Seattle could turn the Leafs ear around if the Leafs had interest in that.

I was thinking Seattle - Toronto, without involving Dallas, could get something done.

You know who for you know who and the 7th.

Leafs end up with Holinka, Koblar, Wright all fighting to push Tavares down to the 3rd. line in the 2027-2028 season.

Totally fine with Marchment target. We're going to be adding a skilled and speedy offensive top 6 player in McKenna. You're going to need to even that out with size. Mathews also has been advocating for more size on his line

Marchment can also play RW, so that helps.

Lets not forget Robo got shafted on his second contract by Dallas and had to just accept it. Now he has all the power and its honestly tough shit for Nill.

Also, Seattle is arguably the place I'd want to commit long term to the least in the entire NHL besides maybe like 2/3 other Canadian cities i won't name. Good for you Robo.
I think we should engage Seattle for 7 and Wight for Knies plus an add.

Edit - Ulf 55, great minds….

I know 90% of our rumors have been all focused on Knies, but I sure hope Chayka has other plans if a Knies trade doesn't pan out

They have a decent amount of quality young players that could easily make this work. The one problem is that they don't have that young high potential defenseman from what I can see, but I won't pretend to know them intensely.

Weeks ago I was wondering about Vince Dunn and his willingness to re-sign there. I think he'd be a huge addition to the Leafs.

…but what are we trading???

Col 2027 first
Cowan - hope not?
AA - hope not?
34/88 NTC
All of our D get limited returns.
FA is all that is left

Honestly.. none of these except for maybe the one that has Sam Dickinson.

The Leafs need to get a similar aged current top 6 F / top 4 D with upside as part of the deal for Knies.

From San Jose, 2 is tough because you're not going to include 2+ Dickinson, 2 + Misa or Graf. 9 + Graf I guess you might think about nad maybe SJ does.

From Buffalo, 4 is a good starting point. Beyond that I think you'd want Power or Ryan McLeod... but you'd still be better off if you could grab Barrett Hayton out of Utah without trading Knies.

For anything after 9, you're talking about a really good sub-25 year player with a number of years of control.

FA is it
It doesn't have to be a blockbuster trade. I just mean I hope he has other contingency plans to pivot too, even if they are small

I thought for sure we'd see a Rielly or Carlo trade by now for example

It would have to be a lot. Like a lot a lot.

This Knies trade business is just insane to me. To trade him I need such an insane overpay from a team that there GM would get fired for it.

Meh. I like Wright as a reclamation project, but him and 7OA don't move the needle enough.

Issue with Seattle is *every* valuable thing they own is a forward. Even their prospects. Feels counterintuitive trading with them, but unless theyre sending Beniers back our way or some combo of JOB, Catton, and 7OA (maybe with Wright as the 3rd piece), I dont see why we do it. Feels like a step back.

It could be a painful next 2 years if we can’t get something meaningful done.

Does his 4th line level production in the playoffs concern you?

I'd have a lot of time for Vince Dunn. He's not young anymore, but I think he'd be a huge addition if you can get him to an extension. I haven't seen any talks about him there and I'd be surprised if he was pumped to stick around that team.

Wright, 7th and Dunn (with extension) and then throw a Carlo their way or something. Just spitballin' here.

I don't think Seattle should be that aggressively in pursuit of Knies.

The knock on Knies, is that as good as he is, he's a complimentary piece that will help a star player succeed. He's not much of a creator. The kraken have what seems like 10 "complimentary pieces". Knies may be better than all, but they really need somebody who's a driver.

That's a fair point but they are at a crossroads. They want to make a splash so they might have to chase down players that can't really say no them and hope they can develop them further or improve with those players.

They really should just commit to rebuilding instead of going after guys like Marchment, McMann, Samoskevich, etc. but seems like they want to improve.

I don't think he'll ever wow anyone, ever. He doesn't have the game for it. Big guy, but doesn't throw the big hits you remember. (Unfortunately) He'll never have gaudy offensive numbers, or be flashy. What he will be, is a quiet, and effective D man, and I think in a few years, he'll be one of the best in the game at that. No flash, just effectively winning minutes, and at a high end level.

But, he has the game that would allow Raddysh to do exactly what he wants, and cover for that. It's about balance, and I think Power has the game to be a great compliment on a top pair, for a guy like Raddysh.
I think you are over valuing Power.
I saw a lot of him at a younger age. He played against my son a lot.

He was never physical, some say soft. Doesn’t have offensive instincts.
Big with a long reach but hasn’t scored double digit goals at any level.

Was number one in a soft draft year. Great size but an empty glass in a lot of ways.

He is still young, maybe he has another gear. But he hasn’t shown it yet.
