The thing with Tampa & Carolina - they both have pretty rigid cap structures and a culture of "if you're going to play here, it's not neccessarily for top $".

Tampa can make $15m work, but I suspect they're probably going to stop around $12 or $13m, so that they can justify Kucherov there.

Carolina has less of that problem because everyone is under contract, but it just doesn't seem like a Carolina thing to pay Robertson $15m when Aho is under $10m.
It's hard to imagine Carolina blowing their brains out for Robertson. They would be far better off pursuing Hellebuyck.

San Jose might be a dark-horse team for Robertson.

They might not be a recent Stanley Cup finalist...but it doesn't take a genius to see that they are going to be an Absolute Powerhouse for years to come
There is that small matter of having basically no defense and crappy goaltenders. They are miles away from competing for anything significant.

Just took a look at remaining UFAs.

if I have to weaponize the 20mil cap space.

Bob for 8milx3
Kapanen for 4milx4
Jenner for 5milx4

That’s about it. Bc the rest of the UFA class are really meh.

Maybe he'd like to go there but San Jose is far from being a good team. They have huge holes, mainly on defense and they've made no progress there. I get that Celebrini is super good and they have good young players but I'd be very wary.

Its crazy how all their problems would be solved by trading their 2nd and 9th for Carlo and Rielly!

To Leafs:
5th overall pick
Thomas Harley
Taylor Raddysh
Vincent Trocheck

To Rangers:
Jason Robertson
Nick Robertson
Brandon Carlo (50% retained)

To Stars:
Matthew Knies
Vladislav Gavrikov
2027 Avs 1st
2026 60th overall pick (from Toronto)

It’s gonna happen any second now :sarcasm:

And to think Andersson wanted the Golden Knights, and now Celebrini has $56mm in Capspace to sign a couple defenders, and Vegas has $11mm and have to sign Dorofeyev.
I expect that San Jose will spend to the cap floor and little more. They have one incredible player, and a whole bunch of hope. If they were smart, they would draft Stenberg, acquire a guy like Rielly, and then fill in around the edges to get to the cap floor. Keep your powder dry for when more impactful defensemen become available. With how weak the Western conference is, they can probably make the playoffs next season on the back of Celebrini alone.

Top-5 scoring players the last 10 years.

Pastrnak 9-playoffs
McDavid & Draisaitl 8-playoffs
Point 8-playoffs
Connor 7-playoffs
Rantanen 9-playoffs
Scheifele 8-playoffs
Aho 8-playoffs
Nylander 9-playoffs

Matthews = 68-GP - 26-goals - 59-points
Draisaitl = 102-GP - 55-goals - 151-points
Ovechkin = 103-GP - 46-goals - 97-points
Pastrnak = 96-GP - 42-goals - 94-points
McDavid = 102-GP - 45-goals - 156-points
Mackinnon = 108-GP - 62-goals - 140-points
Kucherov = 147-GP -53-goals - 167-points
Point = 99-GP - 45-goals - 90-points
Connor = 58-GP - 20-goals - 49-points
Tavares = 75-GP - 28-goals - 53-points
Rantanen = 105-GP - 44goals - 130-points
Crosby = 148-GP - 57-goals - 163-points
Scheifele = 53-GP - 26-goals - 49-points
Stamkos = 123-GP - 45-goals - 95-points
Aho = 108-GP - 39-goals - 97-points

Lets just throw Nylander in there for fun hes only 24-goals from tieing Aho for 15th

Nylander = 67-GP - 26-goals - 58-points

Besides Stamkos, our top-3 rank the worst for PPG & the worst for games played in the playoffs for the last 10-years regardless of some players not even playing ten.

Now its not hard to put the pieces together and come to a conclusion that this is the main reason we have lacked success especially considering what Matthews, Tavares & Nylanders cap hit has been.

9 out of 16 players have won a cup.
And out of the remaining 7-players(three of them being Leafs) 2 have advanced to the stanley cup finals twice & the last two have been to the conference finals once and the second round, plus a few first round exits.
Only one team besides us has three players and thats Tampa Bay but when we compare there stats vs ours its evident why they have had more success.

Tampa Bay= 369-GP - 143-goals - 352-points
Toronto= 210-GP - 80-goals - 170-points

Our top three lack the ability to advance past the first round besides one time, management has to do somthing because im confident this core three will never win a cup together.

I would consider moving Tavares + to Pittsburgh but obviously John would have to agree. Even if we get two years out of Malkin + Crosby id rather take the chance then keep this same core together.
Maybe the penguins take a shot at it if Dubas can convince Robertsons brother to sign there. And the Penguins have the picks to throw an offer at him.

Andrae-Villeneuve or Danford

PP #1
Knies-Crosby-Cowan
Matthews-Raddysh

PP #2

McKenna-Malkin-Nylander
Matthews-Karlsson

Toronto-
Tavares
Carlo
Quillan
Grouix
Maccelli(sign and trade)
Robertson(sign and trade)
1st round pick 2027(Colorado)

For

Pittsburgh-
Crosby(50% retained)
Malkin
Karlsson(50% retained)

Kyle Dubas owes us a favour and they will end up losing all three players for nothing, besides Karlsson who they could trade but he only has one year left on his contact so he's a rental.

That's got to be absolutely humiliating for Seattle that a guy would turn down 120 mil cash.....

But not a good look for Robertson, shows he's not willing to bet that he can lead a team that needs help

This is why I think the humiliation of it might make them pretty aggressive to go after other options. I could be wrong though and maybe they just go "welp we tried" and stay patient or something.

It would remind me of Treliving chasing Andersson for ever and then just giving everything to Boston for Carlo instead.

Truth is he is worth the 2-7 pick. Any add is bonus.

I’m not in it for the likes. Or I’d post Harley+ Skank+Bourque like everyone else.
Odd comment to assume people are here like farming rather than because they want to engage in conversation. You seem cynical, brother. The world is not against you. Cheers 🥂

Hat tip to someone.....

aintreading.webp

Regarding Jason Robertson, haven't decided if I'm most amazed by the contract offered, that the contract was ultimately rejected, or that a proposed trade was to involve the 7th overall. Saga ultimately to be continued!

If I have to read one more post that is essentially...

Trade this and this for that.
And then give this for him.
And then just trade that for this and this.

Let's just trade all our crap players and low picks for good players and high picks. Like duhhh?!

Buddy, must be nice living in fantasy land.
