Dakota Joshua has nice hands for a big man and can offer secondary depth scoring. You still need size. I see no issues holding on to him.
Big, soft, doesn't finish his checks like he did in Vancouver. 3.25 mill cap hit for what should be a 4th line player by the time the draft finishes who just missed 27 games and has a 3 season trend of missing more games each season the last 3 seasons. Time to go.

With Stolarz, I'd say 50/50 shot he rebounds and plays like a legit upper end starter (albeit, likely for only ~30-35 games). His career stats are very good, better than Markstrom's, and he's only 32. He's also a pretty ideal veteran backup goalie, if one if our young guys can take the net in the next few years, and his contract in the rising cap is fine for that role.

Markstrom by contrast is a virtual guarantee to be a below average starter, at a high caphit. Not interested.

It's less than ideal, don't get me wrong, but might as well keep the guy that was near elite a year before. Markstrom can play more but he's been pretty bad.

Maybe you regret not removing the term this time next year, but if the goal is to push for the playoffs, you gotta hope Stolarz can bounce back because he's definitely your best shot.

Would be shocked if Joshua was still a Leaf in a month.

One of the benefits of continuing to improve the D-core is that it allows Tanev to take a lesser role. I think he can have a solid, healthy season with less minutes.

If we're talking the Rangers what about Schneider? He seems to be a young possibly available defenseman

@Morgs is probably going to launch himself into space because his underlying numbers are horrible and it may put our front office off him to but thoughts?
I vote no

4th OA with Stenberg available has one value, 4th OA with him taken has a different value. Frankly, I think that's what's holding up the Knies trade.

I also think that if such a trade happens it will likely be 4th OA and Korchinski. Oliver Moore if we're lucky.

We aren’t trading Knies for a draft pick.
That’s what is “holding up” a Knies trade

That and it’s highly unlikely anyone will meet the super high price it’d take for us to move him.

I think one reason why the Leafs will interview the top prospects is to gauge if it’s worthwhile to move Knies if another top 10 pick can be had.

After McKenna who really knows what their list is like.

Another swap of goalies then because there was a reason why Chayka traded Woll (even if he acquired another goalie in the deal)?

My belief is that the leafs are walking a tightrope here with Matthews. Trying to be young and better. This is a likely trade of them to make in such a situation.

To make things clear. If Stenberg's there at 4, Chicago isn't trading that pick for Knies. If Stenberg's taken and Reid's available, then I believe a genuine offer will be on the table. My bet is that Chayka has the balls to pull the trigger on a Reid + Moore trade.

I went back and watched as much as I could of his time in Vancouver to figure out "has he always been like that" and no, he hit with more malice in Vancouver so...You don't want to play hard in Toronto, go play somewhere else. The Hurricanes 3rd line center just won the Conn Smythe, the bottom 6 players matter if you want to win. I believe he has a limited no trade clause. Get him out, rolling out guys who can't be bothered to finish their checks is a culture problem. It's not going to get any easier if they make the playoffs.

Yeah I think you may be onto something. If he wasn't trading Knies he would have just said it. Everyone is saying that for an overpay he's available.

Which I dislike, but Kyper and Bourne said Brock Faber's name and...That's hard to pass up. Especially if you get a pick and a prospect/player...I don't see why Minny would do that though and nuke their D but...

I think they should keep Knies and figure out who you're playing him with.

Joshua looked like he put on some pounds in a recent interview I saw. Ive also heard fitness has been a problem for him.

I wanted to be his fan when we acquired him but low effort and takes too many nights off. And a terrible fighter.

No chance Faber is available especially since Hughes is tied to him. Funnily, it was quite clear watching them both in college that that Faber made things look effortless while Knies was just bullying guys.

But here is chance to identify someone they really love and maybe add another piece that fits into their style.

"If everyone's playing to their capability, we should wear teams down and grind the other teams down in a full 60-minute game if everyone's doing their job," Joshua said. "You've got to use it to your advantage and make sure you're using it the right way."

Went out and said this and didn't back up what he said...I just...He has good hands, his shooting % is nuts his whole career. 10 even strength goals in 55 games isn't something to write off. It's just the effort level, for 3.25 million as a cap hit you'd expect more out of him given the role he's brought in to play and then what he says, and did in vancouver.

If fitness is a problem then they need to just get rid of him, you're a pro athlete, the bare minimum is being in shape.
