Getting rid of Morgan Rielly is a great way to build out the team
He has been a total liability for the last 3 years. He's essntially our Darnell Nurse
Okay. He wasn’t the only problem with this team. Or the D core even.
And his mobility is falling off.
But he still is the fastest Dman we have and the speed of our D was definitely one of our problems this year.
All I am staying is that they need a plan to address that and just get rid of him and figure it out after is not an intelligent plan.

TBF to Kyper, Leafs basically have 3 question marks (4 depending on Ersson) and are hoping one can run with it.

1 inconsistent, injury-plagued G I haven't heard whether will be ready for training camp
1 prospect who showed well but is still an unknown
1 prospect who's even more of an unknown

Zero reason to believe Stolarz wouldn't be ready for training camp? What did I miss?

If we're talking goaltending I wouldn't mind resigning Ersson dirt cheap as the Marlies number 2 and having our goaltending coaches work with him to see if he's completely broken or if he's a worthwhile reclamation project
Yep this is how I see it.
I wouldn’t qualify him but I’d try to sign him to a cheaper deal.
He won’t get claimed off waivers. He has experience if we run into injuries. And he is still young enough that there could be potential to try to unlock.
We need a #4 and without a prospect ready to step into that roll he seems like a good candidate

Missed nothing. I just haven't heard any news of his recovery. Usually I would give a benefit of a doubt to goalies and believe he'll be ready but it's stolarz so I remain weary

It would be a coup if Chayka goes out and sign Bob for 4yrs and then trade Stolze

I'm not saying Bob is the right option, but philosophically, if you've decided that you want to give Dennis Hildeby (or any young goalie for that matter) a real shot to become an NHL goaltender, and still want to do be a decent team.... The only way to do so is to get a guy that you know is good for 50 games minimum.

Just like Minnesota has Filip Gustavsson infront of Wallstedt.

I recall reading somewhere that Markstrom's name was being circulated as potentially on the move. Wonder if there's a world where you can swap Stolarz for Markstrom.

If we're talking the Rangers what about Schneider? He seems to be a young possibly available defenseman

@Morgs is probably going to launch himself into space because his underlying numbers are horrible and it may put our front office off him to but thoughts?

Just realised Stolarz is from NJ.

If Devils offered Markstrom for Stolarz, would you do it?

Helps the Devils free up some cap for their RFAs as well. Leafs have space to take on higher cap for 2 years.

I could see the 2 nerds hooking up. Not sure how it all would all work value wise though.

I think I'd rather keep Stolarz even with the red flags... Markstrom might be able to play more but has struggled a lot more.

If he's willing to put in the work with the Marlies, could be a good option to have as a 3rd/4th goaltender. I'd be surprised but I can see it.

If it isn't Ersson, it will be some journeyman goaltender.

but he's got less term
But he's not as good... And he's 4-5 years older.

With Stolarz, I'd say 50/50 shot he rebounds and plays like a legit upper end starter (albeit, likely for only ~30-35 games). His career stats are very good, better than Markstrom's, and he's only 32. He's also a pretty ideal veteran backup goalie, if one if our young guys can take the net in the next few years, and his contract in the rising cap is fine for that role.

Markstrom by contrast is a virtual guarantee to be a below average starter, at a high caphit. Not interested.
