No chance Faber is available especially since Hughes is tied to him. Funnily, it was quite clear watching them both in college that that Faber made things look effortless while Knies was just bullying guys.

But here is chance to identify someone they really love and maybe add another piece that fits into their style.

That's how Kyper and Bourne viewed it too, they have a chance to trade a guy anywhere in the league for an overpay which is pretty rare considering the quality of player Knies is.

I don’t think he forgot how to play hockey. Might not be a 100 point player but I bet he normalizes around 70-80 points. And despite the offensive drop off his defensive play remains extremely underrated.

My belief is that the leafs are walking a tightrope here with Matthews. Trying to be young and better. This is a likely trade of them to make in such a situation.

To make things clear. If Stenberg's there at 4, Chicago isn't trading that pick for Knies. If Stenberg's taken and Reid's available, then I believe a genuine offer will be on the table. My bet is that Chayka has the balls to pull the trigger on a Reid + Moore trade.

The thing with Chicago waiting is if Stenberg goes 2nd Overall that puts a lot of pressure on Chicago to trade for knies what this means is they will likely overpay for knies to get a deal done, and they will be in a lot of pressure Reid + Mooore + a 2nd or fondell + Reid is what I would ask for. So Chicago waiting at the draft to trade for knies will only benfit the leafs, if Reid goes 2nd Overall and stenberg 3rd then you draft Malhotra as 4oa. A lot of possibilities.

When is the qualifying offer deadline for RFAs? There are always a few interesting players that don't get a QO each season.

Might be an effective way of grabbing some underrated talent before they break out (i.e. when Washington grabbed Strome).

Knies talk starts at 22 minutes. The goalie talk is before that and isn't much other than they will go after a veteran because Stolarz isn't reliable. He says (about Knies) "we all believe his name is out there, teams believe his name is out there" he says him and Friedman are hearing this...

Cam Talbot at 38 (Caledonia, ON native) can handle 40+ if needed and might be willing to mentor the other two for the next few years.

Rielly or not, getting Elias Pettersson without emptying the farm would be a massive coup here.

You can make the argument that "he'd crack under the pressure" - I'm not so sure that would be the case. He's been the #1 guy in Vancouver for a long time. In Toronto, he'd be #3.

To me the bigger problem is that stylistically, it's not neccessarily a spectacular fit. In a perfect world, with Matthews & Tavares in, the Leafs should be seeking a Jordan Staal or Ryan O'Reilly type at centre; not neccessarily a purely offensive player. You also have to question if having all 3 of Matthews/Nylander/Pettersson are the types of players you can actually ride to playoff succeess.
