Not sure it is something Leafs would consider for a 2 year player.

Werenski can't be re-signed until next year.
Leafs take all the risk, you can't do conditions on re-signing.
If they make that trade, they might as well trade 1OA too. Two years to win a cup or total rebuild.

Too risky

To Pens: Nurse
To Oilers: Rielly
To Leafs: Graves + Pens 27 3rd + EDM 28 3rd

This deal clears 3.5M for the leafs + 1M when we waive Graves. We would have 4M in savings from Rielly at 7.5M to Graves at 3.5ishM once waived.

Pens get a LHD top 4D man looking to bounce back and dump an AHL asset for a 3rd

Oilers clear nurse and upgrade (on fit and need) to Rielly for the cost of a 3rd allowing to deal Walman if they want for depth pieces

Leafs gain 4M in capspace and add in 2 more 3rd rounders while giving Rielly his preferred move and a clean break.

Worth pointing out that Eddie Belfour, arguably the best goaltender to play for the Leafs in the past 30 years didn't sign here until he was 37 - re Bobrovsky
A great couple of years for Belfour in Toronto before things fell apart during his third and final season here. I just don't know how realistic it is for Bobrovsky to sign a similar contract for short term now?

Samoskevich was just traded for a late 1st and a 2nd. Hayton is older but also had better seasons, and is a center. Seems inline to me. But I could be wrong.
No thank I want to stockpile our firsts and trade them for legitimately top 6 and top 4 dmen that are signed.

Hayton doesn't move the needle much imo.

Same with Roberts. I think he was 33 or 34. Back then you only got UFA past 30s it felt like

If Leafs can get Bob for 2 years. I'll be OK. That way it gives AA/Hidelby some time to be backup

Cujo says hi.

To your larger point, Johnny Bower and Tim Thomas didn't even become NHL regulars until they were in their 30s (neither even made the league until they were almost 30).

I agree with you about Bob. For the right price, he is definitely worth it and would be a great mentor to AA and Hildeby.

I think young center wise, these guys are probably available without paying very high prices:

Mactavish - legit 2C potential, good offense. Terrible defense and poor skater
Hayton - probably tops out as a 3C. Young fast and good defense. But soft with low production
Krebs - 3C. Fast, physical, good defense. Lower ceiling offensively
Patterson - 1C/2C. Elite offense, great defense. Horrid contract, horrid attitude

Commenting on Trent Frederick, he has never been the same after that hit by Mccabe. The concussion was the beginning of his downfall. He still has potential but huge risk

I want to seem to take gambles, as long as the risk for long-term cap penalties is a minimum. I say bring them on.

The team really hadn't had a true starter since the Quinn years. Might be time for a change as long as we can still keep at least one of the younger guys for the future

You don't think we can get two 3rds for Rielly straight up and not take on a cap dump?

Rask (if only) vs Pogge (hopefully not) sort of makes me want to see both retained for whatever time is possible.

I dont think so if Im being honest.

It will depend on how flexible Rielly is and if hes willing to accommodate for more then a few teams.

Maybe the one of the thirds get bumps to a 2nd (EDM 27 2nd)?

Rielly for Graves (dump) + 27 2nd + 27 3rd I think would be pretty much around what I would expect in a Rielly type deal unless hes being valued higher around the league and perception being yhat Berube's system hurt rielly's output substantially to the point, teams arent caring much for his declining play the past two years.

With Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby already on the roster, it seems as though the Leafs are looking for an upgrade in net, with speculation starting to mount over potential links to St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington and Florida Panthers and soon-to-be unrestricted free agent backstop Sergei Bobrovsky.

Binnington, 32, is entering the final year of his contract and comes with a $6 million cap hit. Bobrovsky, 38, is believed to be asking Florida for a five-to-six-year extension worth in between $5 million and $6 million per season.

The Winnipeg Jets are taking calls on superstar goalie Connor Hellebuyck, while Elvis Merzlikins of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Jacob Markstrom of the New Jersey Devils, Sam Montembeault of the Montreal Canadiens and Adin Hill of the Vegas Golden Knights are among the goalies currently available for trade.

Chayka has around $20 million in salary cap space to work with this off-season, and he continues to engage in trade talks with teams involving the likes of defencemen Morgan Rielly, Jake McCabe and Brandon Carlo.

It is unclear if the Leafs are trying to move Stolarz
, who will see his four-year, $15 million contract extension kick in July 1. He also owns a 16-team no-trade list as part of his deal.

The Leafs are already in the market for a mid-six centre, a top-six winger and another defenceman, and could look to take a big swing for a new starting goalie.

We'd be better off just signing Corey Perry, finally, than clean up Edmonton's mess in Trent Frederic. His contract is so bad. The sweetener to take that garbage back is probably Evan Bouchard...
Edmonton would want Rielly though if we take Bouchard :sarcasm:

I was thinking since Ottawa seems to be going into a mini rebuild maybe Giroux wont wanna re-sign there. Id definitely take him on we are in desperate need of right shot players.

Why do offer sheets get brought up all the time when they are, in fact, extremely rare? And do those bringing them up not understand that the player has to accept the offer?
St. Louis recently did it to Edmonton and got two good players while giving up very little...Vegas is in a bind, and they are not very liked by other teams...a team paying him $9.3 million only needs to give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd...I don't think Vegas could match that AAV.
