Friedman says Werenski MIGHT be available. Don Waddell is considering it after the Sens traded Brady. 2 years left on the contract.

I'd trade Knies+ for him.

He's under contract to a team in Russia for another year or two. I think there would have to be a mutual termination of the contract, which would be unlikely, the team would have to buy him out, or he'd have to buy out his contract himself.

While a good contender for the role, you'd have to ask if the team could put up with the inevitable social storm that would result.

That does hold a valid concern, when taking into account that he'd be coming to Toronto, where 100 point players' dogs are getting death threats.

Mathieu Olivieri would be the alternate guy you’d want. Doubt he’s available either.

Olivirri is pretty close, but he doesn’t have the offensive upside of Wilson, still would be a great pick up if it was possible, which it isn’t.

A 70 point center is not a 3C in any world.

Run him another season at number two C and he’ll be soap by Christmas, and no Olympic break for him to recharge the battery this year, I’d rather see him play less and play well all season long, plus he’ll be better on the PP.

I'm indifferent on Mason Marchment. Another Toronto guy who I think would be nice but Idk if he's Chayka's type of player, meaning if he's too slow.

But at the same time, we are adding a speedy star-level talent in Gavin McKenna to the forward group, so maybe we could use a power forward like Marchment in the top 6 to balance it out?

There's not much power forward from what I have seen from Mason. He has some feistiness but not consistent. He is big but more like Roy

Not sure if he has anything we are lacking. We need a mofo who can play

• Says we knew more trade requests were coming, the problem for the other Team USA players is that no matter what they say now, no one will believe them.
• “There are rumors about Werenski. There are rumors about Matthews…With Werenski there’s been reports about it..the Columbus fans have pushed back hard. Matthews I think he starts next year in Toronto”
• At 5:20 the specific Werenski quote from the title. Friedman says Columbus is in the same situation as Ottawa with Werenski having only 2 years left: “There’s been some noise around Werenski..I think what happened here with Tkachuk probably makes Don Waddell think a little bit”.
• Mentions Columbus signed Coyle and they want to win now because they want to keep Werenski.
• On how the Brady trade happened: Staois visited Brady in NJ and walked out of the meeting thinking “we have to do this”. Ottawa made the choice. Brady didn’t ask to get traded now.

The only issue is he's only got two more years left and with the current trend, might bolt to one of the obvious spots now.

If this guy had 3+ years on his contract, I would trade ALOT to get him.

Bobrovsky in Toronto would be one interesting move lol... I respect Friedman here but no way they get desperate for a 37 year old goaltender looking for a retirement paycheck. I really don't see it making sense contract wise.

I get that Florida will be pretty good but it would be very interesting if they cheap out on goaltending. Not saying it's the most important part of the team, but it can easily derail a season.

Michael McLeod would be free and exactly the kind of centre that we need:

- Excellent on faceoffs
- Very good defensively
- Plays PK
- Very good skater
- Good hands and capable of producing

Not sure of his status regarding NHL availability though... has he been through a screening by the big bad Bettman?

Edit: Apparently, he would be eligible: Following his acquittal, the NHL reviewed the matter and officially cleared him to return to NHL play on December 1, 2025.

They won't touch those players with a ten foot pole -- with good reason. The distraction from on and off the ice would be pretty huge. There are so many hard working bottom line players to give an opportunity to.

Even in the AHL playoffs Marlies fans were booing heavily Cal Foote, they know.

Cheap goaltending is what the Hurricanes had. I guess if you believe in your team and structure, you can believe in cheap goaltending. None of the 3 goaltenders in Carolina had a SV% above .900 in the regular season lol

Funny enough, I easily see Florida going after Skinner as well.

Honestly, I can’t think of a better bottom six C in terms of what we need. Speed, size, age, physicality, quality hockey player, Right handed. Alas, the distraction around it would be too much.

Vegas didn't exactly have great goaltending either, although I guess Hill wasn't cheap. Not sure I'd call Carolina lucky, they dominated.

Yep, always a limit but then the player could just choose to stay and run out their contract if Waddel or any of the other USA guys GM's dont get 'enough'
