If the team flops again and matthews asks for a trade then you burn it down to the studs and trade everyone on the roster outside of Mckenna, Cowan, and knies. The returns on Matthews, Nylander, Tavares if he waives, McCabe, OEL, Raddysh if we're rebuilding and waives would be a massive haul and would negate a 10 year rebuild.

Yeah the 10-year rebuild was if we try to force things to work, and dont transition to a massive sell off if this team just misses the playoffs.

If we deal all those guys it can be a 3-5 year rebuild and not 10 years.

Funny, I was thinking about Carlo for Norris yesterday too (maybe one of you posted it already and it got in my head). Obviously a huge risk due to his injury history, but the payoff could be huge. He's a solid 2C. If he could give you 60+ games, that may be worth it.

By the way, I saw some of the exact trades that were suggested on here yesterday pop up on my X account. Either my algorithm has picked up one of you guys on X or someone is stealing your ideas and posting them there!

It's 100% his agent giving Weekes info that Toronto is involved. It's a classic tactic for some reason. No chance the Leafs do it for multiple reasons. Or at least I'd be shocked.

It seems like things could start to get limited if Chayka wants another UFA and he has to wait till July 1st for that one. That next UFA might determine what the Leafs next trade is. Ot it might be tied to something at the draft so either way I think we may have to be patient, and assume he may not be done, even if there is no imediate next move.

Well thats what happens if Matthews asks for a trade after this upcoming season. We know this b3cause willy only moves if matthews wants out. The scenario you are describing really cant exist.

Buffalo was trading a ton more to get Parayko (who refused to waive his NTC). Maybe he'd come here, and only here, and that reduces his value... but I think the Blues would keep him at that point.

It'll cost the Leafs a combination of a 1st and Cowan or Danford at the minimum.

Its a #2/3D + top 6W + potential top 6C + 1st

I am trading them with extensions in that case and not as rentals

I agree its not a franchise piece but its a Canes - Rantanen esque deal where you build the depth and be a more complete team.

Ofcourse it wont happen in reallife but just wanted to see how deep a team we can build cap wise and we can build 3 great lines + 2 great pairings pretty easily if we want to

I'd like to add a RW for the top six, though likely only on a one-year deal in the sense that McKenna may need to be eased into a top six role and Cowan may not be ready for that full-time role on his off-wing for a team with aspirations (playoffs). I'd only consider a bigger add/longer term if the determination has likely been made to move off from one of the incumbents prior to the start of next season at the latest. All that stated, I'm not sure who fits the bill of a top-six RW on a one-year deal since Patrick Kane to BUF seems like a great idea if Tuch departs, and I'd ideally prefer someone with more of an all-around game (a mix of offence and defence) anyway.
