GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Xenforo Cloud is upgrading us to version 2.3.11 on Monday July 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. Expect a temporary downtime during this process. More info here
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Believe it or not Harley seems very unpopular among Dallas fans (overpaid, underperforming, vanilla...)
His name is out there, so he might as well ask to be moved. Nill might have enough with players with NMCs, so he is quite desperate...

Interesting

Just feels like it warps their roster unless they have a Robertson trade lined up for more defense.

Does CBJ accept that? Has Werenski demanded a trade?
H3 hasn't demanded a trade but has insinuated hes not resigning so the jackets are getting out in front of it. Its been leaked that Tampa and Toronto are the front runners as they are two places hed be happy to be moved to after declining g Dallas.

Friedman predicts Bob to Toronto but the Oilers (!!!) are in the mix. 3 years 21M (3x7M) is the prediction. Also has Marchment as a possible destination for the Leafs.

Also varied interest in these guys apparently.

The centres: Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Toronto, Utah, Vancouver. These teams were all around Noel Acciari, Erik Haula, Boone Jenner, Scott Laughton, Colton Sissons (Nashville reunion?), Kevin Stenlund.

There’s some quality available: Bob, Riley Smith, Kappy, Mantha, Malott, Kunin, Kane 1, Kane 2, Stanley. None ore star players, but the Leafs need depth not more star players.

If 38 year old Ovi scored 15 goals last season and wanted term to come, you would say no he is cooked. Bob at 38 on a contender put up .888 and wants term, is viable?

How?

I know, but CBJ is not obligated to move him.
When I read he turned down Dallas that kind of threw up a red flag in my mind. Why would he do that?
Will CBJ accept what the Leafs and Tampa have to offer or will they wait? This might be the best they get and take what they can now.

This team played toughest against Florida a couple of seasons ago with

Matthews
Marner
Nylander
Tavares
Knies

Matthews
Nylander
McKenna
Tavares
Raddysh
Werenski
Support pieces rough around the edges

This is a much more balanced team

Also we have lost all our series because of special teams. Our special teams would be elite with this core

Pumped about Kawhi coming back. Leafs need to go all in and be confident they can keep Werenski.

Also this is not a small market team. We will always be top 5 players in the free agent market.

Main boards are going to wreck us if we get this guy. It's a totally manic acquisition

Love hearing Byram at $12.5M. If that's the direction of the market, Raddysh looks a lot better, Knies holds more trade value (if we move him), etc.

I can't believe he hasn't traded Bourque yet. Everyone knows they cant sign him. Everyone knows he's great.
I dunno. I get they’re briefly in a tricky spot, but isn’t that the kinda guy you clear the space for? There’s gonna be ways.

There was once a time where team ownership controlled the fate of the players, now it’s the players who control the league, hopefully the pendulum stops swinging back and forth and common sense becomes the norm. I hate that it’s been one or the other because the fans are the one’s who truly get screwed over.
Owners and team control the players they drafted for several yrs.

These full no movement clauses as mentioned by several GM's are used to seal the deal. Players want protection and rightfully so.

Agents are not going to all of a sudden take these "perks" off the table.

As we see in free agency. You pay if you want something and yes it's usually an overpay.

Owners make enough money in sports.

Yes fans suffer through mistakes made by management . Been happening for a long time now.

The issue is the cap

We never cared what players made etc back in the day when there was no cap.

Blame management and not the players. Stop giving out these crippling full NMC in contracts.

But then again we will then start complaining that player X should of been signed and we should of offered a full NMC to get that player X
