Plus Shea will probably get the cheaper/shorter contract.

Main question on Ferraro is how he would look on a quality team with a quality d-partner, but that's the type of thing you take a flyer on (eg Leafs sign Benoit for cheap, who looked awful in Anaheim), not something you throw ~$25M at or whatever his contract ends up being.

I don't think people appreciate how bad the ownership situation is in Vancouver right now. They will be a cap floor team indefinitely. It is a really bad situation.

I very much expect them to acquire another goalie. I don't think there is any way they go into the season with Stolarz and Hildeby. I expect the latter to be dealt as part of a larger transaction.

I can’t believe Gudas to Toronto is even a thing. There is a zero percent chance they sign him, especially after the Matthews incident. Not to mention he sucks.

I know most possibilities have been explored in this thread from reasonable to wild... but I think we are going to see some things completely out of left field that nobody expected. Chayka is not afraid to deal, whether for better or worse, and there are countless ways to reshape while respecting the cap. The fact a few pundits now have said the Leafs will be very active is both refreshing and terrifying. Feels like it's gonna be an interesting ride in these forums this year folks, my gut thinks so anyway.

I was reading a bit more about the Dallas situation with their cap. They're going to have to make a decision somewhere. I doubt Chayka wants to make an enemy so early but they could offer Bourque a contract with 4.775M and only give up a second round pick next year.

3 * 4.775M. Walk him to free agency and put Dallas in a tough spot to match.

Alot of Dallas fans would give Lyubushkin up for free for cap relief. 3.25M is alot for a depth defenceman. Toronto could always dangle the threat of an offersheet and try to agree to a trade.

Maybe something like:

2027 second rounder, Robertson for Bourque and Lyubushkin (cap dump).

Gives Dallas cap relief and a potential cheap piece in Robertson to unite the brothers. Toronto could always throw in another mid pick. Maybe they're able to take advantage of Dallas' cap situation.

Boosh may not fit Chayka’s style but if they move Carlo, Rielly and McCabe to reshuffle things he may have a role
