State of the (Leaf) Union Address, June 2026:
I like what Chayka has done. He's DOING SOMETHING. That's a good thing. No guarantees it's gonna work but he's off his ass and moving the needle.
The D was so bad last year, Raddysh will be an upgrade even at 70% of what he brought last year to TB. Andrae is a Swede. I'm assuming Mats checked with is contacts over there about him and thought he was worth a flyer (no pun intended.). Yeah, I know, he's a twerp at 5'9''. But he seems to have some fight in him. Leafs desperately need warriors, man, I don't care if they're 5'9'' or 4'9'' as long as they scrap and claw and give a damn. That's why I like Stecher.
Which brings me to William F. Nylander. He's gotta go; "million dollar talent, 10-cent head" player. We've seen enough by now to know that. I think he's a goof. Makes fun of the coach. Flips off the camera. Stonewalls his teammates.' celly. (See Maccelli beauty, December 2025) With his stats his trade value is high. Ship him out for at minimum a couple good, character guys for the bottom six or another young D man. Maybe Chayka can get more than that for him. Test your GM trade skills. Fleece somebody.
Goalie situation still very fluid this summer. Double A certainly merits a shot based on Calder Cup. Someone there will be traded before camp.
I don't have a preference between McKenna and Stenberg for Pick 1, though the world is in love with McK. Fine. Again, either will be an upgrade over 2025-26 top six. Playing Max Domi on the top line last season? Seriously Berube?
Style of play for next season better not be the Dump and Chase either, Hiller. That was a disaster last season. Let's try some puck possession this time around, eh?
Facing reality here, Leafs aren't Cup contenders just yet so play the hell out of the young guys next season. Cowan. Danford. Koblar, AA. Don't have a quick trigger. Give them time. Let's see what they've got as we look a year or two down the road to a serious Cup run.
Thank you, and God bless.
