GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
That's fine but you need players to spend it on and the free agent market looks thin
I was kidding. I don't think Buffalo will use the money they saved on Tuch for anything. They will save money by going with what they already have, and they will absolutely take a step back next season.

The draft is there to so I doubt they want to trade picks away

Gotta give to get. If they are happy then so are we.
In a normal year the 4OV pick is fair value. I get prices are nuts right now but he’s their top prospect. I have a feeling BUF is pushing 4OV - Power and Leafs are having none of it.

I mean I get it but this is what the Leafs probably need. This whole thing is because teams want him but the Leafs don't want average to good value, they want great to overpay.

Either way, we'll see where it goes but it feels very unlikely.

#4 and Power?

Isn't that a very very good offer.

I haven't followed Power, so not sure where his value is.

Especially if Knies is staying in division. The acquiring team has to pay the tax. If BUF didn’t lose Tuch I would say Helenius could be on the table, but I don’t see them subtracting anymore top six forwards to acquire a player.

I’d say Power is a solid 2nd pairing guy. Solid offer but I wouldn’t say that blows the Leafs socks off to trade Knies. If Stenberg was waiting at 4 then probably a better chance they’d do it.

Like Helenius a lot, right shot center with huge upside.

Knies + Carlo + 60 for Helenius + 4 + 20?

Get Reid/Verhoeff or Malhotra/Bjorck at 4, then Blyel/Villeneuve or Klepov/Hurlbert at 20.

Risky trading with them, but they do have a lot of nice peices. Make them overpay. At least Chayka seems firm on the asking price and wont move Knies unless they overpay which is good.

In Sabres terms its: 4th + Power? Doubt the Sabres move Power after moving Byram.
In Sharks terms: 9th overall + Misa?

I think in Sabres terms, you'd be wanting Ryan McLeod + #4 at this point.

At the end of the day, as a Leafs fan, I'd just like them to figure out how to get a Ryan McLeod type without trading Knies.

Florida isn't getting Hellebuyck. I don't think they even have the assets to get Binnington. My guess is they sign two Temu-level free agent goalies.
It's kind of funny with FLA and their players usually re-upping for less than market value because of the team culture and all that...except when one guy bucks the trend like Bob is doing now. I wonder if it means things are starting to crack with the great culture they have (I hope so)...All it takes is one guy to set things going the wrong way if FLA caves...

It has nothing to do with patience. It’s about what is best for the player’s development and the team.
Neither of those are served best by playing this player on the 4th line with mediocre players
Maybe he carries them? Sure I'd love to see him shine on a 1st line, but that sometimes can backfire too. Oh he will get the looks but if he spends a little time down on the 4th to feel some feels, it's okay with me.

Would love to do that deal but sadly I don’t think the Buffalo GM is as stupid as the Hawks GM. Only certain GM’s get fleeced.
