GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Chayka right now /s

Maybe he carries them? Sure I'd love to see him shine on a 1st line, but that sometimes can backfire too. Oh he will get the looks but if he spends a little time down on the 4th to feel some feels, it's okay with me.
Again 1at vs 4th line are not the only options.
He doesn’t have the physicality or defensive acumen to play effectively on the 4th line. And Lorentz and whoever else don’t have the offensive IQ or ability to work with McKenna the other way.

It’s just an overall terrible idea based on a flawed concept of something the leafs did nearly 40 years ago. All 3 of those hound line players had significantly more talent than anyone we are putting on the 4th line with McKenna in your scenario

This Knies stuff stinks.

Montreal put up a strong offer that was declined. Never leaked until the administration was gone.

Now our GM is publicly mulling over the thought like an online poster 'I'd do it if we get a big overpay!' More leaks about said overpays getting turned down and shopping the player around town for picks.

Meanwhile the guy that was being groomed for a leadership role is just sitting there watching it all go down.

Bad business.

Publicly? Where? I hope you aren't talking about what "insiders" are saying what he supposedly said, since that isn't public at all.

In a normal year the 4OV pick is fair value. I get prices are nuts right now but he’s their top prospect. I have a feeling BUF is pushing 4OV - Power and Leafs are having none of it.

It’s sounding like the ask from Chayka for knies to Chicago was 4OA + Frundell

I have to say if knies does get moved it’s for an absolute haul.

Chayka that guy standing there telling you “I know what I have” and means it

Updated list:

Free Agency Targets if the price is right (using AFP $)
Wingers:
Viktor Arvidsson (another good top-six option with right-hand shot) (2yrs, 5m)
Oliver Bjrorkstrand (middle-six right handed two-way who can move up the lineup if needed) (2yrs, 3m)
Andre Kuzmenko (offensive, right-hand, short-term deal) (2yrs, 4m)
Mats Zuccarello (Always liked him, good stop-gap option on LW if they move someone like Knies) (1yr, 6m)
Claude Giroux (enough said) (1yr, 2.5m)
Eeli Tolvanen (two-way middle-six RW could look good on a line with a shut-down centre) (2yr, 3.6m)
Kasperi Kapenen (former Leaf, has developed into a strong depth player at 5on5 with speed/grit) (3yrs, 3.1m)
Danton Heinen (utility defensive forward with speed, can play all positions if needed 11/12/13th forward) (2yrs, 1.8m)
Patrick Laine (wild card!) (1yr, 850k)

Centres:
Boone Jenner (I like him as a player, although I'm not sure if he's the right fit for what they need as a 3rd line C compared to other options). (3yrs, 5.2m)
Scott Laughton (If they use him like a #3, he could be a good shut-down role if he wants back) (3yrs, 4.1m)
Kevin Stenlund (Big defensive centre for the 4th line, right-hand shot) (2yrs, 1.5m)

*If they move McCabe/Carlo/Rielly out:
Ryan Shae (two-way transition 2nd pairing option LH) (4yrs, 4.3m)
Brett Kulak (defensive minded 2nd pairing option LH) (3yrs, 4m)
Nick Blankenburg (small two-way 3rd pair option RH) (2yrs, 4m)
Nick Jensen (defensive-minded 3rd pair option RH) (2yrs, 3.5m)

It's kind of funny with FLA and their players usually re-upping for less than market value because of the team culture and all that...except when one guy bucks the trend like Bob is doing now. I wonder if it means things are starting to crack with the great culture they have (I hope so)...All it takes is one guy to set things going the wrong way if FLA caves...
Bobrovsky was grossly overpaid when they first signed him so his continued expectations fit. Nothing new because he came in as a mercenary following the paycheque. I think he is just jacking them for some leverage and will be re-signed.

The more I think about it, I think Reilly is going to Edmonton. They were already interested before...now they have the babcock connection

Yeah it’s a good sign. I would have loved that package from CHI. Would also love Helenius and the 4th. Maybe if Chayka doesn’t crack someone will finally meet that kind of price. Buffalo definitely doesn’t want to take a step back so we’ll see.

I hope they re-sign him to a longer term deal, just so they can sit there fuming after he continues down this spiral he has been on. I want ZERO part of him on the Leafs. I think he jumped the shark and is just trying to get a nice retirement payout. I hope FLA and their culture goes for it and pays him.

Trade rumours come and go. It's the business, I'm sure he gets it. No idea what will happen but I'm sure it will be behind them once things cool down after the draft.

Not really sure what Columbus' needs are, but I'd inquire about this guy pretty seriously. Hit 57 points at 22 (granted with a high sh%) and can play centre

He's a guy that could be our 3C or play in the top 6 as a winger, he has Domi's versatility but i think hes a much better player defensively

I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on Pettersson as 2c to push Tavares to the wing

But that contract seems like a backbreaker.
