GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Kyper says the leafs will have to retain $1-1.5M on Rielly and get a 5th or 6th back.

Id be shocked if we would have to take such a bad deal.

I’d just keep Rielly at that point.

Kyper's the worst sometimes when he exaggerates the Leafs position of weakness. If we were trying to acquire Morgan Rielly under the same circumstances he would say Morgan Rielly is a former 70 point scoring defenseman and would cost us Ben Danford.

In Sabres terms its: 4th + Power? Doubt the Sabres move Power after moving Byram.
In Sharks terms: 9th overall + Misa?

If this is true, Dubas being so pissed at Davidson all those years ago makes so much sense with how he leaks shit.

Also, I'm glad to hear Chayka's not willing to budge on this type of cost. Makes me feel like if we do trade Knies, it would actually be for that "holy shit, I understand why" type deal.

which makes sense.

In a world where Byram is about to get 10 or 12 million and the Hawks gave up the 4th pick for that privledge Morgan Rielly at 7.5 is not a cap dump. Guess he'll hang out on our 2nd or 3rd pair with less responsibility more talent around him, and not shit coach and see how it goes.

Hate Chayka or not... I think there is some big trades coming that could possibly be team altering.

At least he is swinging for the fences for now. There's a real possibility leafs are a playoff team next year and go on a run.

The way this off season has been.

Any Knies ask has to be for a stupid return and I love the rumours I'm hearing that it is that.

Just praying it won't be underwhelming if it happens.

So far it seems he's willing to make some moves and be proactive. He's done more than treliving did in a couple years basically in a month.

Keep Rielly and move someone else instead. I'd rather not retain at all, and certainly not for such a paltry return.
Agreed. We’re not a cap strapped team, no need to retain and/or attach assets to trade Rielly. I’d rather see if he can bounce back with less responsibility on the ice and a new coach/system. I don’t think it’s a coincidence his two worst seasons were under Berube.

Yes those are the only 2 options……
Well imo I watched the hound line work their way up in placements ( yes that was ages ago) but still, even just easing him in and then trying him out on the top two lines learning how to adjust to bigger stronger players from the get go would be great if he could. Guess I got a lil more patience.

On a human level he may be too far gone to bounce back in this market, but from a pure asset management POV there's no reason to take an L just for the sake of change.
