I mean, Carlo was right there for the taking.

Makes you wonder if Buffalo was trying to put a package with Byram + for Knies and Toronto said no thanks we don't deal with Ferris clients. It would be pretty funny.

Younger does not necessarily mean better, and there is still the associated cost to consider.

Why are Canadian teams interested in Carlo when the guy probably heads south after this year?

It should be a team who can extend him. Preferably, a team who is cap crunched just for this year but can pay him more the following year. That is the kind of team who would pay the most. Hello Dallas.

As long as the Leafs get some worthwhile assets for him, who gives a shit? Not Toronto's problem once he is traded.

I think Chayka is waiting to see what he can do / how much cap space we have left.

If we sign Maccelli and immediately retain 50% + pay out signing bonuses (I think this is allowed) we could get a better return. If we’re not using the cap anyways might as well if it can bump up a projected 4th to a 2nd/3rd.

No Idea why they would. This is apparently a deal on the table and if it truly is on the table the Leafs need to seriously consider it. Will Smith is a #1 center in the making not Matthews tier but definately in the Suzuki tier.

Nah... they are both good D still, and we aren't going to change all six.

Rielly, Benoit and Carlo is changing quite a bit, and overall we will be younger moving those guys out. We are likely only a year or two away from adding both Chadwick and Danford as well... so chances are two seasons from now, we won't have a single D man, that we ended this past year with. Change is coming, and we will be getting younger..

Players available will all have some red flags to some degree. I wouldn't pay a premium either, sure, but he's got plenty of potential with a good toolkit.

Good luck finding that kind of trade for Carlo.

Re; trading Knies McCabe etc.... I don't think anything should be off the table.. People tend to forget, you need to give to get.

Would I prefer not to trade McCabe, yes.. But I'm most defiantly willing to trade him if it makes Toronto a better team.

If a trade improves the team it should be done, regardless of the player.
