GDT: Trade and Free Agency Thread

Anaheim has been a terrible team, especially offensively and I don't think they've had 1 player reach the 50 point mark since the 2017/18 season. Any d man on a team that offensively challenged isn't gonna have the best advanced stats. Many players who people like me read about on this forum where we see that this player sucks because these stats are awful, then that player goes to a different team and those same stats show he's not bad and is actually decent/good.

Leafs are for sure going to be looking for a Physical Bottom Pairing Defenseman before the trade deadline. RH presumably

They wanted Bogosian back badly and also offered Jani Hankanpaa a contract before he chose Dallas. I wonder if Jani Hankanpaa would be available if the Stars continue to be outside a playoff spot?

Other Candidates might include

Robert Bortuzzo (Blues might not want to sell though)
Ben Chiarot (Might be way to expensive to attain. I can see someone give up a 1st for him)
Josh Manson (Gonna need some Salary Retained for sure)
Jeremy Lauzon (He's young. Would Seattle want to give him away?)
Luke Schenn

Jani Hankanpaa and Luke Schenn might be the easiest to get due to their Contract and complexity. Anyone I miss?

sandin is far from a sure thing as a top 4 this year. See last years playoffs.

sandin. Lilly/holl or dermott. would be a contender.

Who is our best centre prospect right now? SDA? If Toronto-boy McBain continues his strong season, he could go UFA in August and hopefully sign with us. Might be our best centre-prospect right off the bat.

A player with term tends to be my preferred target around that time too. I imagine the cost would be a 1st or its equivalent in prospect though if the player is a significant enough add with an established track record.
 
The team as it sits is very good, the only holes are #1 Lw, and bottom pair hard nosed Rd. That means the players Availible are Likely Engvall, Ritchie, Holl or Dermott, and to a lesser extent Mrazek and kerfoot due to cap.

I think the most logical targets for #1 Lw are
Kubalik, McCann, kempe, and Rust.

If we're going after a #1 LW then our target should be JT Miller and that's it. He is exactly what our top 6 needs.

This brutal trade robbing the Leafs of now and the future is horrific. Would immediately have to go on a rebuild after next season because Miller is gone.

Don't want him even if he isn't.

What happens after the Leafs sell the farm for him and he walks after next season because of no cap space and we lost all those assets to get him?

Man, Leaf posters are getting so dim it's scary!

You’d be getting him for 1.5 years, or more importantly 2 playoff runs. It’s exactly what Tampa did with Goodrow and Coleman.
And if you’re able to get double retention on him that is a lot more significant then you’re making it out to be.

While I don’t like that particular trade, Miller would be a huge addition.

Would be nice to avoid shipping out someone like Amirov/Robertson and a 1st in the same trade. I realize the return would likely be a huge piece, but still. I understand that one of the 3 mentioned would probably need to go for an impact player with term, but hoping it wouldn't take 2. Even Niemela and Knies would be tough to add as well.
