Not sure why the canucks would be interested in having dead cap space barring a pretty big over payment from the Leafs. Seems like they're trying to retool and be competitive. Cap space is pretty valuable to them.

I could see the Leafs getting a third team involved to do it though. Just dont think the Canucks would.
Yeah, probably Edmonton .

A deal for JT Miller and Luke Schenn in a package makes a lot of sense.

Amirov
Kerfoot
Dermott
Engvall

for

Miller
Schenn

I figured they'd have an interest in Amirov with the WJC chemistry...giving them quite a few good roster pieces...maybe they should retain 1M or something.

Evgeny Malkin @ 50%
for
Alex Kerfoot, Justin Holl & 1st

Malkin - Matthews - Marner
Ritchie - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - - Kampf - - Kase
Bunting - Spezza - Simmonds
Clifford

Nope.

Why are people so desperate to put the Leafs into cap hell and give away useful players and prospects to do it?

Miller 5.25 mil
For
Kerfoot 3.5 mil
Holl 2 mil
Amirov

or

Horvat 5.5 mil
For
Kerfoot 3.5 mil
Holl 2 mil
Amirov

What cap hell ?

Note:
I don't think Benning would be dumb enough to get rid of either but you never know.
Would love Horvat.

Yeah, can never underestimate the stubborness of that management/ownership group.

Moving on from Miller, I took a look at rental + 1 forwards under 5.75million cap hit.

Thought is to emulate Tampa with high cap leverage, two year buys that blow our window wide open this year and next, using retention to get solid top 6/9 guys at depth rates. Looking at that list and teams that are faltering this season, it strikes me that the two player swing for the fences could be Zucker+Blueger. Laundered through Arizona for a double 50% their combined cap hit for next season would be under 2m.

He's better than decent. And he absolutely has the ability to be one of the better players from the 2020 draft. Topi and him are 2 prospects that we shouldn't trade.
I'd say to this point he's been just ok, production at every level has been good but not great.

This year is a bit of a big year for him, if he's a legitimate top end prospect he needs to take a big step forward to show it. This is the age top end young KHL players start to put up some numbers at the KHL level. Injuries have derailed him so far, hopefully he can stay healthy and play well.

How exactly should he be rated? Scores at a consistent 20-50 pace and does a lot of other stuff well too. Sounds like a pretty good player.

I'd actually give him more credit offensively than you do here. He's closer to a 30/60 guy really....though more of a complimentary offensive player than an impact one.

But the overrating comes on the defensive and intangible side of the game.
