Knowing the asking price for Chychrun, I think I would actually do this, in tandem with trading Rielly out for futures to balance out the loss of 2x 1st round picks.

Rielly + 2022 1st for Chychrun would set us up nicely for the next four years.

The assumption being that Rielly could then net them a package including an additional 1st rounder as a pending UFA. Maybe more, maybe less; depends on his year.

Chychrun's cap hit is 4.6 /4 more years and is a better defenceman.

All dependent on how management view potentially re-signing Rielly and stapling him to the core.

Rielly would get a lot more than a 1st round pick if we moved him for futures, so that is an easy pass for the Leafs. EDIT: And that would be if he was a 1 year rental; he'd get significantly more if he came with an extension agreement too.

In general, the idea could work and has been suggested in the past. Calgary would work well here, since Rielly would be a great fit for them (to replace Giordano) and has the pieces that could go to Arizona for Chychrun.

If the price was actually two firsts he would have been traded to whichever of the 31 other GMs was able to get thru the phone lines first.

Seems unlikely Chychrun, is available given his play/age/contract status unless he demanded a trade, but if he is the price is going to be a lot more than 2 generic firsts, 2 unprotected firsts from a likely lottery team, maybe.

What would we want from Calgary? I'd be interested in their 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, Florida's 2nd round pick, Eetu Tuulola, Justin Kirkland, Glenn Gawdin, and Oliver Kylington.... probably the 1st and two of the other pieces would be as much as we could hope for.

They are probably hoping Nylander can step up in that case.

Nylander did in fact step up big time for the team in the playoffs, he's just not a centre.

If Kampf is flanked by Kerfoot and Kase/Mikhehey, I think that’s a good line despite Kampf being less than ideal.

I wouldn't expect much.

It's not like Danault where you thought he just needed the opportunity to flourish elsewhere.

He has 4 years left at 4.6M which is 400k less than what we're paying Rielly currently.

You could probably get a 1st + 2nd for Rielly.

I'd pay the 2 1sts but would see if they would take 1st+2nd+Dermott as it would help clear some cap.

Worst case, make the trade for 2 1sts and liquidate Dermott if they're committed to Sandin.

Kampf is our #3C IMO. For most of the second half of last year the rumour was that Dubas was going to acquire a top 6 LWer. Turned out to be Foligno and with Hyman and Foligno leaving I think we really need a top 6 LWer. Problem is we can't afford one unless Kerfoot and/or Mikheyev are moved IMO.

Or you acquire a 3C and put Kerfoot on the wing where he belongs.. Kampf isn't the guy IMO he can fill the gap until the deadline..

We definitely need a 3C. Kampf/Spezza aren't the guys.

Kerfoot is though, and you split draws with Kampf/Spezza. Same thing Tampa did with Gourde and Goodrow. Gourde was not the best at faceoffs when he had to do it full time but he was fine when he could split it with Goodrow. Spezza is not a center anymore, but he is still amazing at faceoffs.

Kerfoot looks way better on the wing than centre. Not sure why we’re trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

Kampf plays C/RW. Kerfoot plays C/LW.. his usage in Colorado was best as a LW option. Spezza has never really played 3rd line.. Kerfoot is likely our most skilled option on the LW, Dubas made reference to him playing wing more in his season end presser.

What’s the over under on PK Subban joining the Leafs next season after his current deal expires?

How's the math look?

Not a chance for the bolded.
They brought Ho-Sang in this year which I didn't think they'd do. At a reduced AAV, I think they might take a chance on lightning in a bottle with Domi. He'd play his heart of here which we can't always say for the rest of the roster.

Two huge personalities.... whom have been tossed around like bean bags despite being good players. I don't know if we should be that interested.
I'd agree. Chances are very slim for either to be brought in.

I don't necessarily disagree. Might not be the worst idea as a short term trial though. We haven't exactly had a ton of success with a bunch of nice guys the last few years either.

PTO, doubtful he makes the team. Ho-Sang while a headcase like Domi doesn't have his intrusive dad in tow.
Tough to see any reason why they would do that.
