I’m not sure why everyone is so down on toronto right now. People pretend like everyone has gotten better. At best it’s musical chairs.

Boston: got hall foligno. Haula nosek and forbort and ulmark.

they lost: Rask halak. Krecji and a lauding? I’d that better? An unproven goalie who has only played on garbage time. Lost krecji……
At best that’s a wash

tampa: lost. Johnson. Gourde. Coleman. Goodrow. Schen. Stephens.

Florida. I mean they took massive bets on Bennet and montour. Can weegar really repeat? They lost dreiger. Is knight really ready?

carolina is undeniably a lot worse.
Washington and pit are a year older.

Philly is wtf.

The other top SC contenders also got worse - Colorado lost Saad, and Vegas lost their vezina goalie. And Habs got worse as well - Hoffman and Suter are a downgrade from Danault and Weber.

Frank Seravelli on the DFO podcast says the Leafs were one of the teams that reached out to Tatar.

AND that he believes Nick Ritchie visited the Leafs on Thursday.
Nick Ritchie is top on my wish list right now. But all these guys we've been adding can move better than a guy like Thornton, and be more effective come playoffs. We all know this team will live and die with our "core 4" contracts. They'll determine how deep we go. But I prefer insulating them with toughness and guys that drag them into the fight, than guys like Mikheyev & Engvall that rip around the ice and do little else other than try to play defensively responsible. We added Kampf too for that. Ritchie, Simmonds, Gabriel, and Michael "the rat" Bunting. Our biggest mistake in the past, imo, is adding a guy like Clifford or Simmonds...and not having anyone else with that attitude to back them up, or for them to feed off of. It doesn't work.
Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Kampf-Simmonds
"prospect"-Spezza-Gabriel

Prospect spot goes to Robertson, Brooks, or Anderson. Ritchie shouldn't cost much, still leaves us with some money to go bottom pairing D, shopping. Or acquire one moving Mikheyev/Engvall.

Ritchie would be a good add... I wonder how he and Bunting can produce on top 6, being paired with 2 star players on their line, maybe they can contribute 15-20 goals, worst case scenario they fail and we call up Robertson and move Bunting/Ritchie to bottom 6.

They fail, you move Kerfy up to one of the top 2 LW spots. Nothing to lose. Added toughness is necessary imo. Even a guy like Bunting who can be annoying. Need players that show some emotion

I'm not a fan but certainly is better than a lot of our options. 15 goals is 15 goals.

I'd rather have Galchenyuk though... maybe both?

I'm starting to think the way to go is to grab a couple of players with that 3.5 million dollars instead of going all out for one.

I still think the Bruins are strong, Hall locked in with a full season is going to be big for them. Fully expect him to get at least 30-35 goals next year.

lol ok. then why have any sort of opinion about anything player related if the criteria is to know the players personally? Do you know them personally and know that they will take a discount? Oh you don't? Everything I have seen from these guys does not scream "ill take a discount to help out the team" In fact I see the opposite.

Matthews is paid fairly, Marner is overpaid.

You can speculate all you want, but it doesn't mean you are right.

It is just as likely that they take a discount as they don't.

Public knowledge would lead me to believe that at the very least Marner was probably not happy with Babcock, could that have lead to salary demands?

Could the priorities of someone in their early 20's vs someone in their late 20's change?

Putting a blanket statement on a player's personality without any context is kind of crazy to me, but, speculate away.

Krejci and Hall had great chemistry and played great together. I always felt he was underrated in his importance to the bruins. The loss of krejci creates a huge hole in their line-up that none of their UFA signings could fill.
