I'm a little concerned we haven't heard more about a Rielly extension.

You can't lose him for nothing, we can't keep doing this. We cannot watch freaking Ristolainen go for a haul and not either extend or trade Rielly.

Unfortunately we've already missed our best chance to trade him as a lot of teams are somewhat settled now. If that's their plan, he really needs to be extended. Before the season starts.

good thing Hakanpaa turned that down. The biggest need by far is a top 6 forward, not paying extra money for a bottom pairing defenseman

We have cap space for both. Hakanpaa on that deal would have been great. Too bad he didn't pick us but Dallas is probably a better spot for him.

Hakanpaa/Menell/Liljegren as a trio for the right side would have been perfect and may have even freed Holl up for a trade to bring back some draft capital.

I agree. Make this Lily's year. Have Lily, Sandin, Dermott and Mennell battling for the bottom slots. If this turns out to be a disaster, make a trade. They have to give Lily a go. Enough already.

Best goal scorer in the league can score from different places not one specific spot. Having a second shooting threat (a player like hoffman) makes the PP deadlier and gives matthews more playmaker options. On that specific spot matthews is almost always shooting. If we have him move to the other side or the bumper and bring in a strong PP forward our PP will improve with multiple weapons instead of just matthews who can be on and off from that spot

The tax situation can be solved by having a different cap level for each team based on the taxes of each province/state.

I doubt it. I think you can have Gubrandson for the League min. So I can see the Leafs doing it cuz it's mad cheap.

Josh Brown also fits the "big guy that kinda sucks defensively but he's big, hits because he never has the puck and can block shots... so here you go"

Tax, personal fit, ideology on pressures in a hockey town, opportunity.. Looking at our D as a young player with limited opportunity to slide up into a top 4 role.

Assuming they don’t want to upgrade guys like Engvall and Brooks, which is a bad idea.

What? You have to remove one of them to put another guy in the lineup. Here’s a full 21 man roster with 7D that has 2.3m in cap before removing anyone to be upgraded on. If you want to replace Engvall then you can add 3.4m

Nick Ritchie is literally out there. But instead he signed a Goon in Kurtis Gabriel...who probably wont play more than 10 games with us

that dude is AHL bound. he is not going to sniff NHL; or may be I should say.. shouldn't sniff NHL unless forced into NHL games

Stuff like that is a bit concerning that Dubas was willing to do that, but it likely meant he had a trade lined up for cap space.
