Pretty sure Dell was on waivers around the time Brooks was.

I would have loved to put a claim on him and waive Hutchinson.

Not sure why we didn’t….

Hutchinson last season - 8 NHL games 2.42 GAA .919% --- 2 AHL games 1.01 GAA .975%

Dell last season - 7 NHL games 4.14 GAA .857% --- 1 AHL game 4.62 GAA .839%

I wonder why...

Playing in Toronto isn't even that bad, it's overstated. Delete social media and you're fine, the crowd is quiet win or lose for the most part. Try playing like crap in Philadelphia, you HEAR it.
You can’t even walk your dog in this market without being heckled.

Your entire family hears the noise in the GTA. It’s the reason why a low key guy like Perry was rumoured to not sign here with his family being in London a few years back.

the last part isn’t true. It is well known that perry wanted to come here and we chose simmonds (right or wrong)

He might be talking about prime perry in 2013 or 2014. When he was a UFA he was heavily rumored to Toronto. Well both him and Getzlaf were but the Perry rumors actually gained traction

He ended up ultimately signing 8x8 with the Ducks

Before UFA it was rumoured he was on the fence about a Toronto potential offer. Ducks fans brought up quotes from previous years about his family in London and how he wants to shield them from the spotlight.

Being a player in Toronto is a completely different beast than any other market in this sport, including Montreal.

Perry was begging to come here if you can believe the media.

He considered leaving Anaheim as a UFA for here but we were a bad team.

We got priced out the year prior when he went to Dallas because of our poor cap space.

Then...we chose Simmonds over Perry heading into the "North" division year. He legit wanted to be here for the last 2 seasons. I'm guessing this off-season it was finally a "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality.

oh yes that was true. I remember perry saying he was close to signing here. I think it was because of Getz he didn’t

doughty has openly said he wouldn’t sign here because of fans and media

Honestly not signing doughty is ok with me lol.

same with anyone that doesn’t want to play in a big market. If you want to hide, stay away. Give honest effort here and you’ll be a hero.

it’s not the media or the fans or the spotlight that should worry people anyway…..it’s the curse we seem to be under.

In recent memorysome of the biggest fan favorites have always been those who play with ton of heart and determination. Tucker, roberts, Clark nieuwendyk. Not saying marner needs to go and fight or lay big hits. But look at the improvement in nylander, he's working much harder on the puck and being a little more physical on other players (for a nylander). Would just be nice if some stepped outside of their comfort zone when things aren't going well.

California has a greater population than our entire country, most people would rather live there, millionaires especially.

Not anymore. California is having a massive exodus of people. Millionaires are getting destroyed by taxes. It will be interesting to see how that will affect NHL players. Who already didn’t give discounts in high tax markets.

Socal population has leveled off, Norcal is still growing. Regardless, no hockey player is coming to Toronto to escape California taxation. Though I could see some billionaires coming to escape the 23.8% unrealized capital gains tax. Musk is still a Canadian citizen... :badidea:

Next season our d will need to be rebuilt , it's not good enough this yr.
Mo is going to get big $$$$$ which we can't afford
UFA dman for next season. Who would you sign next year.
Colin Miller RD
Ben Chiarot LD/RD
Ian Cole LD/RD
Deangelo RD
Yandle LD

Our d without Mo
Brodie
Muzzin
Holl ( think he should be traded )
Sandin
Lijlegren
Dermot
Kral ( I think he has a chance to make the team next yr )

Ben Chiarot and Ian Cole would be nice

The Leafs will likely have to deal Kerfoot and Ritchie before next season. The Ritchie deal is looking idiotic.
They will need that capspace

I will toot my own horn that I did not like Ritchie and I wish we never signed him. I was trying to be optimistic and seeing the bigger picture or the need to having someone like him around... Bleh.

With that said, he only has 1 more year and his cap hit is manageable. I could see a team like Arizona, Ottawa or whoever being fine to take a chance on him for a mid/late round pick or B/C/D prospect

As one of the bigger defenders of Holl and what not. He seems completely out of shape and so much slower at both skating and his decision making. Maybe he's really injured. I don't watch practice or whatever but... I'd be worried if I was the Leafs about his physical stamina.

The lines at practice make it seem like he's going to be demoted for a bit. I hope he can find his game again. I will say though his value on trade market will be very interesting over the next few months, assuming he's on the top of the trade bait list of the Leafs. I wonder if he might even be traded before the trade deadline to open up cap space.

I was never a fan of the Ritchie signing, but he is so much worse than I originally thought.

Between Kessel/Cap Raise/Mikheyev Walking and also adding a Kerfoot trade for a youth package would leave Toronto with enough room to pay for the raises to Rielly and Campbell.

I would prefer to wait on Ritchie and see what he provides over a full 82 before giving up on him. He brings a certain element even if he plays down the lineup. If he can produce along with that to his career norms he should be kept.

I've also really liked Holl (going back to his college hockey days). But he's definitely looked off this season.

I'm hoping part of it has to do with his reported "illness". I could still see him being traded, but seems like it would be an offseason move

Not the worst thing ever. I feel like giving Liljegren and Sandin a combined 4.8M is pretty excessive, but assuming they were given long-term deals, it could make sense... especially Sandin.

I think the Leafs will bridge them or 1 year extend them though and to keep their immediate costs low. They haven't exactly dominated or showed huge potential at the NHL level yet.

Sandin and Liljegren haven't done anything to warrant more than their qualifying offers. 4.8 is double to triple what they'll cost unless they immediately become top-four defensemen.

Lilly - 2yrs x 1.8M
Sandin - 3M x 4yrs
