Does that look about right to everyone from a theoretical perspective?

Too much for Galch and ZH. Galch should not go over 2M and ZH should be around 4 to 4.5 the most.

I can't see Galchenuk garnering 3m - perhaps half that. And Hyman would be giving us a discount if he signs for 5.

I dont think Galy will be making more than 1 million. He's looked good, but not enough of a sample for him to get a 3x pay raise

So you're thinking he takes a full year "prove it" contract at like 1-1.5 million? That would be great. Sincerely hope you're right about that!

A dream scenario for me would be to get Hyman around 4.5 (for term), Gally for 1.5'ish, Bogosian at the same hit, without a raise, and be able to afford a Scott Laughton type at 3C... We'll see. This is where Matthews not taking 11.2 and Marner not taking 10.5 could put us just that 900k or so away from having a very complete roster next year....

I'm happy to be over on Galch, I could see you being right around 2.0... But no way Hyman comes in closer to 4m than 5m, IMO.... 4.75×5 would be a steal, IMO. Easily could see 5x4 or 5x5.

For the record, every single one of our good players came in little higher than fans would have liked / thought. That's why I'm predicting Hyman closer to 5m than 4m.

Dubas tends to go for players he knows from the Greyhounds. under the radar D pickup:
Colin Miller 50% (1.94) retained from Buffalo. played in the Vegas finals run couple years back and for Boston.

I doubt he gets a defenseman with term. He just needs another guy who can join Marincin, Sandin, and Liljegren as extras in case we need them. We don't need a top 6 guy, and quite frankly we don't really have the assets to get one anyways.

We may be able to get Vatanen without retention for cheap once he clears waivers. That would be a nice pick up.

Hakanpaa or dipping into the CBJ well for Del Zotto (although I imagine the Leafs could have just had him thrown into the Foligno deal for no cost) could be others.

An underrated option could be Travis Hamonic from VAN since he has a NMC and can choose where he wants to go. Although he may end up in Winnipeg. I doubt he chooses to leave Canada though and Toronto is by far the best option if he wants to compete for a Cup, but Winnipeg is home for him and they have a huge need.

Definitely should look to shore up the D with a depth piece.

But man if he adds another forward like Laughton or Iafallo, this might turn into a legendary trade deadline.

I don’t mind our superstars taking fair pay. Dubas is confident in his abilities to maximize other areas. Next year alone we’ll have 3 players on ELC (Robertson, Sandin & Liljegren) and 2 league mins (Anderson, Spezza)

He was looking like he was potentially heading out of the league at the time of the Leafs trade for him. So while I'm not going to claim certainty in this, I don't think he's going to see a lot of multi million deals thrown at him right now. 800k-1.5 mil should comfortably be his range

Couple notes from 31 Thoughts;

- Leafs considered Connor Garland before acquiring Nick Foligno.

- Leafs never made a strong play for Taylor Hall.

- Doesn’t think Freddy will come back until he’s 100% healthy. Apparently Freddy was playing hurt while Campbell was out, and now Freddy needs to heal and won’t be playing hurt again.

- Columbus got offers early on with 1sts for Foligno. They knew that would be their return. Which allowed them to let Foligno decide where he’d be.

If we can get Rittich re-signed at his current cap hit (2.75) the difference between him and Andersen (2.25) should be enough to cover Hyman's raise.

There have been rumours that Ullmark wants to go to UFA too. I’d kick those tires as well.

I’m glad we didn’t go for Garland. I just don’t think he’s the type of player that would help us through the playoffs.

It's going to be a year where finding cheap players outside of the normal sources is very important. I don't know what Euro guys are available this year, but would be interested in finding out. Seattle is going to mean another 23-28 guys have jobs, increasing the demand for players. It might be more challenging finding decent depth guys, for cheap. So who out of Europe could we be looking at?

Okulov.

That's really it.

If Hyman is asking 5mil, I'm looking someplace else.

i'd kick the tires on Saad, or Cizikas. also, see how Foligno works out maybe offer him a 2 year deal if things go well
perhaps take his $$ and Anderson's and throw it at Hamilton instead. (or Savard/Oleksiak/Gudbranson)

there are many ways to better use 5mil than Hyman, who is still a grinder who profits from his linemates (which admittedly many do not)

if its a 4x5 deal, sure, i'd consider it, but, that would be my hard roof.

So Foligno chose the Leafs over Vegas or Colorado, thats pretty huge. Definitely wants to be here and that probably means players around the league are confident Toronto has a chance.

SOB mentioned Okulov, previously linked to the Leafs and Habs, and who’d be viable second line option for a year.
A big playoff run would help interest in the league min market, but it’ll also be a good time to insert developed youth.
Lili is pretty much done with the AHL.
Anderson’s probably close to being what he is. He and Malgin can compete for a spot in the wings.
NickRob is another.
An influx of youth wouldn’t hurt.
