Sandin + 38 + something? (B prospect? Abruzzese/Someone not niemela Robertson knies) for Gibson + comtois.

Comtois isn't one of my top choices for Tavares' wing, but he'd be a pretty decent fit there. I'd prefer a C/W who can centre the 2nd PP unit and eventually share the C responsibilities with Tavares as he ages. Nicolas Roy is by far my top choice, but Pavel Zacha or Michael Rasmussen could work too.

Comtois brings that below the hash marks and along the boards play that would help JT excel and free him up to be his best. I like a couple of your options, but on the third line more so

THIS. Look I love Matty but look at what mcdvaid and Makar and shesty did. They took the team on their back and delivered a series win. Matty hasn't done that and that's not good enough. He was excellent first half of the series and then just playing good isn't enough for a Hart trophy ,11m player. You have to deliver.
Matthews put the team on his back vs Tampa.... it was his elite touch pass to Rielly in game 7,

Marners shot in game 2 that the color guy who accurately described the shot as "barely moving" ...it was matthews who won the faceoff back to Marner at the point and proceded to wrestle with defenders in front of the goalie and it slid in.

Buntings goal, it was Matthews who steamrolled unsuspecting perennial Norris trophy candidate Hedman created the turnover and scored...

Matthews game 5 gwg, it was Matthews who backchecked and hit the Tampa player and poked the puck lose that led to Bunting passing the lose puck to the wide open and indefended Marner (his defender double teamed matthews), Matthews pivoted from all this and created the two on one for his own goal.

Problem is.... Matthews 11 million winger wasn't creating these same type plays for him. It's not Matthews... it's the small winger riding his coat tails that's the problem.

Iunno why, but I have some weird sneaky feeling about someone like Binnington.
If they've been working on Husso hard and know he's their guy going forward.

Maybe something like
Muzzin + Pick/Prospect

Opens up spot for Sandin in the process.

It would be so nice to use draft picks to improve the team for once, and not to undo awful contract decisions. Imagine that?

I'm sure Dubas will be great again when the cap jumps to $90-95 million where he has a greater tolerance for error, bad judgement, and terrible contract decisions

It sounds like he could be closing in on a trade for a goaltender. I don’t see it being Binnington but I definitely wouldn’t mind that.

We’ve used dramatically more picks to improve the team than we have to get out of mistakes so weird post. Hell this one isn’t even a spent pick, it’s a relatively minor pick swap

You are underestimating the simple minded people who didn't get to see the pick last night though.

So we did lose a pick last night... they just don't like to admit that it was pushed back a few hours lol

Leafs lost a late first round pick.
Leafs gained an early second round pick.

Leafs lost a back-up goaltender.
Leafs gained 3.8 in cap space.

Seeing how things unfolded, and the commentary by the "experts" it really does seem to be a nothing berger.

Commentary indicated many of the picks from the Leafs' 25th. forward could have been picked later.

But then they insinuated after the top 10 everything was open, but to me it just seemed after 20 things got scrambly.

Its funny game 7 goal created all about marner pass between 2 tampa defender whobwas creating confusion in tampa d and force both of 2 tampa dmen goes on matthews and created a line pass for rielly.

Game 5, team work of 4 player defensivly to force mcdonaugh to miss his play and created a 2on1

Game one 5v3, marner to tavares to marner and marner watching mikheyev all time long in the slot to force tampa d to block that passing lane and creating an other passing lane for matthews

He accept to take a huge hit around the board to clear the puck out of the zone and created a breakaway

And he scored on breakaway

Game 2 bunting who, marner using his skate to deflect the puck behind the net and keep play alive unstead a icing or offside. Matthews goes on mcdonaugh and marner on paul. Both of matthews and marner did a great play, if marner didnt be agressive with matthews on paul cover, probably nothing would be happening...

Game #3 he found a loose puck and shoot, rielly get rebound

Marner deserved every points he scored by making great play on each of them. Both of marner and matthews was great and making each other looking better.

The cost for moving from 25 to 38 in a pick only trade would likely be a 1st and a 2nd, say 30 & 38. In my books we gave up a 1st to move him.
But we didn't. Dubas will likely will get the same guy he would've taken at 25, at 38.

The only reason he originally was okay with moving pick 25 is because the guy he wanted got picked.

It's fine because arm chair gms on hfboards still have names on their list left to play with.

Who cares that scouts making millions don't get to draft as soon as possible to increase the odds we get a hit. Bob on hfboards got this with his equivalent tier list.

Dubas took my username literally with these first rounders lately. I'm happy the cap hit is gone but damn, so much asset leaks.

I've never known a Leafs draft target not be available later in the draft. It's like their list is nothing like the 31 other teams. Probably why we are reaping the rewards with a steady influx of ELCs.

Its not just keyboard warriors. Its the history of every draft lol.

Historically once a draft hits 20 it is wide open and there really isnt much difference.

Oilers and Leafs shed salary for goalies and now will negotiate against each other to drive the price up :)

I'm surprised that the Oilers are going to be trying to sign a goalie with any sort of salary, but then again, there's talks that Smith isn't going to come back next season and they're unsure on what Duncan Keith is going to do as well.

Leafs should have the upper hand, but I'd prefer that they go after a Gibson/Helleybuck instead of trying something that didn't really work the last couple years.

Hasn't this been an issue over the last 3-4 years? Leafs had 1 ELC in the lineup in game 7 - Kallgren. The Leafs basically wasted Liljegren and Sandin's ELC years by getting a combined 162 games and 7 playoff games between the 2. If they didn't give Liljegren 2 extra games in 2019-20 they would be primed to get a big contribution from him next year on his ELC. The last good ELC contribution for the Leafs was Kapanen in 2018-19.

Who cares that the scouts making millions thousands decided the players they wanted were gone/available later and okayed moving the pick. Bob on hfboards says we should have made that pick anyway instead of trying to manipulate the return

Lol the professionals literally in charge of who and when to pick gave the greenlight to move the pick
Will we probably miss someone between 25 and 38 who will go on and have a good career? Yeah, probably. But that's how the draft works, unless you hold onto all 7 picks and draft the 7 objectively best players in the draft, you miss players literally every single pick
I just hope the player we miss isn't the next Datsyuk or Kucherov and that we can turn cap space into a valuable asset. The trade itself is whatever.

Its way too high for the draft and situation. Late second/early 3rd seems more accurate IMO

As I've suggested the scouting staff is on the clock. From before the current management group.

History hasn't been kind:

would be interested on the asking price of Helle, seems like Jets are headed for full nuclear mode.

Helle with retention and Schmidt for Sandin and Robertson?
