What exactly is Chicago doing though. Sign Seth Jones to a giant contract one year, and they sell their best young player for picks a year later. I wonder what Jones is thinking at this point, beside cashing cheques.

He went to Chicago to secure the bag while the money was there. It was pretty clear the hawks were trending the wrong way, it was a questionable move at the time from Jones.

I know the numbers are there but in any of the games against the Leafs I’ve never been impressed with Debrincat.

He enjoys some of that Kane inflation, but I still thought he’d get at least something more than a great pick, a good pick and a throw in pick.

Lets see how many goals he gets without the best passer in the NHL feeding him.

Should still be a 25-30 goal scorer every single season at a minimum.

I guess Chicago finally realized it's time to rebuild. Better late than never, I guess.

Time to start looking at some pieces that the Leafs could trade for now.

I'd be looking at one of McCabe/Murphy and then one of Katchouk/Raddysh.

If the Leafs have guys that are 3 years out in their prospects, plus some bodies that can get Chicago through the next couple years, it's time to make those trades.

Everything Chicago is doing says to Toews and Kane "are you sure you want to play here next season?"

Honest to goodness I'd love to see one of these fully intentioned de-constructions of a team blow up in a franchise's face. It's one thing to give it a go at winning, fall short and start moving out your vets on expiring contracts. It's another thing to clear out every significant player including the young ones to avoid being a middling bad team. I wish 50 decades of basement dwelling on the Chicago <new franchise name to be determined>.

He should be thinking that he's massively overpaid...

Ottawa, and maybe Detroit, see an opportunity in the Atlantic in a year - Once Tampa runs their course someone needs to take the reigns. Buffalo and Montreal are few yrs behind, Boston is aging out, Florida can’t sustain anything are looking to sell the franchise, Toronto likely peaked last year and could be changing management next spring and losing Matthews shortly thereafter.

Buffalo says hello. Remember the McDavid draft?

I mean Ottawa and Detroit are going to try and get better regardless of the other teams in the division. I also don't see how Buffalo is any more behind than they are.

If Ottawa finds a way to unload Murray they might be in the market for one of the UFA goalies. Seems like Ottawa is trying to be aggressive and a better team than stay the course.
