I get it, but im surprised by the actual money and logistics that go along with Debrincat.
It’s a big QO next season that he would probably happily accept and walk to FA in 2 seasons. I’m sure Ottawa has a feel for the players contract expectations.

Can't wait to see the same media people who never shut up about the Leafs "small" wingers lose their minds over how smart Ottawa is for acquiring Debrincat.
Hayes feschuk & corrado already were doing just that.

You have to wonder what Chicago is doing. Acquire Seth Jones and give him huge money then trade your most promising asset.

They also let go of two 2 goal scorers in Hagel and now Strome
Very weird. Are they doing a full rebuild?

Maybe Jones will go too.. Who knows

What exactly is Chicago doing though. Sign Seth Jones to a giant contract one year, and they sell their best young player for picks a year later. I wonder what Jones is thinking at this point, beside cashing cheques.

Leafs acquire small players, "this team won't learn".
Other team does it "greatest trade in sports history".
The Overdrive reaction to it was embarrassing. They were just jumping for joy for Ottawa.

Will quite enjoy when DeBrincat signs a 1 year deal next year and walks. I’d actually put money on it

A 40 goal scorer who happens to be 24 years old only gets you 1st and 2nd
Whoever they pick at 7, unles he gets 40 goals in his second season this will go down as a lop sided trade as you can make.

We're a team full of Soft small players. Not like we're lacking in skill

Ottawa isn't in the same phase as us. They need their versions of Debrincats and Marners and Nylanders

It’s not that lopsided for a 2 year rental. I’m assuming Chicago knows he’s going to free agency as soon as possible and Ottawa is making a losing gamble that he won’t

Even the Giorgiev reaction was questionable. You know if we do it, wow keep throwing away picks.
Colorado? Sakic is a genius.
Than again Hayes is the same guy who said this era isn't better than the Nonis era so why am I surprised.
Corrado was also spreading fake news about Leafs giving up millions of slot shots and HDCA.
Feschuk was more objective which tells you all you need to know about the other two

Really not sure where you are going with this.

Except for the small player Sens got scored 40 goals in this league multiple times
The small players Leafs got were Petang, Jhonsson, Ennis, Moore, Malgin....... 2 of those players don't even play in NHL

None of them were any type of goal scorers and for the position/role they played in bottom 6, they were small and they played small .Except for AJ and maybe Moore

Well hard to question a GM who just won the stanly cup with mediocre goaltending

I think maybe I'm into it because I think Murray is actually a starting capable goalie. His underlyings last year look much better than the surface sv%. We're taking on all the risk, but walking away with a Nazar/Nemec/Savioe just for paying 3M+ in cap space is good asset management imo.
And it’s just two years.
I didn’t really get it for Ottawa at the time.

Leafa are constantly crapped on for having "small" top 6 winger's in Marner and Nylander.

They are crapped on for playing small. Doug Gilmour and Wendal Clark were both under 5'11.
Leafs fans dont' care about size, they care how big you play

Nylander and Marner are both 6'0. They are anything but small

I'd be looking at sending Nylander + Sandin + 2023 1st to Calgary for Tkachuk. Hes played alot with Matthews and Marner and they would be the most dominant line in hockey. Put Bunting with Tavares and find a decent rw to put on that line.

Leafs dont need another poor playoff performer.

Let me be less subtle:
1. You think Matt Murray is such hot garbage that he has to be both retained 50% AND include the 7th overall pick in the draft.
2. You also think this hot garbage can be part of a solution in goal for a team we're still treating as serious contenders.

If Chicago is rebuilding, we need to seriously look into Connor Murphy.
That frees up Holl to move elsewhere and improving our RHD.

Thoughts?

Chicago does not have Murray.
