I'm not buying this until it actually happens

It would take massive retention + taking Mrazek, and even then... Murray was 'meh' this past year. There may be something there if he gets behind a good defense again. But it was only 20 games, and he was Mrazek-level bad the two years prior.

At the same time, he is still fairly young, would not cost anything even if they take back a ton of money, and he is a guy who has played well enough to win multiple Cups.

Is he my top candidate? No. But I would take a bet on him over a guy like Gibson for example. Either way, we are betting on a guy returning to form from 3 years ago, Murray costs less (or no) assets, has a shorter term contract (by 2 years), he has actually had playoff success, and he would almost certainly come at a lower cap hit too.

I think the idea would be Murray is effectively a straight swap for Mrazek in terms of role and cap, and we still bring in a Fleury or Husso or Samsonov or Blackwood or some other solid option to pair with him. Otherwise, I don't see us being interested.

I think Mrazek would be willing to go to OTT as well... Especially instead of getting bought out.

Murray had a cap hit of 6.25 for two more years. There has to be more money going to Ottawa than just Mrazek.

If Ottawa is attaching a sweetener to take Murray for Mrazek what would it be a 2nd round pick?

If looking outside you would have to think Murray is right at the top of Dubas' list.

I guess if Ottawa decided to retain Murray’s cap down to Mrazek’s aav and they wanted to swap goalies I could see a conversation for that. I’m sure both teams would rather work out a solution vs buying their player out.
If there’s no other options to ditch mrazek that don’t include top prospects or high picks this is a creative way to change things up.
Still would be a toss up to me between which one I have belief in bouncing back to previous form.

How about something involving the Senator's pick?

Rumours about Sens after Anderson and Dvorak?

So Sen's 7th. to Montreal
7th. + Montreal 26th. + Montreal 33rd. for 2nd.?

I assume if they moved Dvorak they'd do it for dubois

We could play dirty, like Tampa allegedly did with McDonagh
You think that is dirty. As a gm you have to make hard decisions that affect people but are best for the team. Its not likeable but hockey is a business. You have to make these types if decisions. Do you think that tampa will have trouble signing free agents because of this. Hell no! Veterans will still be lining up to sign with a chance to win a cup

Not an easy yes for me. We are in win now mode and that cap space is extremely valuable.

Still a yes for me, but thats a tough one to swallow. Gonna have to bet hes the guy big time.

This seems like an easy yes from the Leafs but... not sure.

Sens won't do it. Why would they give up a top 10 pick to move Murray? They'd probably package the 7OA pick for a player like Matthew Tkachuk or another piece. If that's the price to move Murray by other teams, then they might as well keep him cause they're a cap floor team and need the cap hit to get there anyway.

I think my favourite Tandem would be

Blackwood
Fleury

Gives you a massive goalie who is still only 25 and has put up good numbers a few seasons ago and likely just needs a change of scenery. As well as a veteran guy who has huge pedigree and can give you plenty of quality starts if Blackwood falters. Also saves a bit of cap to spend on depth forwards.
