I thought they would at least get a draft pick. They didn’t get anything in return except for cap space.

Tampa absolutely just gave him away for free. Curious that another team wouldn't even give up a 3rd or 2nd round pick for the guy.

Wonder what that means regarding the market right now
Well, he had a full NTC with 4 years left at big $$$ and is starting to slow down from his heavy usage (like Muzzin).

I think the return reflects the full control he had over being traded at all, and he could control his destination.

And buying out Myers gives them added cap room for this season.

They get a cap credit of $616k for this season

It's interesting, because he could be an excellent reclamation project.

But TB needs the cap credit they get for buying him out. $616k credit.

They currently have 6.7 million so sign Palat. They need cap space next year more than this year, so I’m not sure a buyout is the best option right now.

Yeah I’m really surprised not even a pick in return. He’s got potential to drop off but atm he’s still a damn good player.

He’s probably a top-20 defensemen in the league.

The problem is this is no longer a Cup winning D without additional moves. Buying out Myers gets them the room.

I'm surprised they didn't have to retain. That's how it is. Cut your losses and move on

Cap space is worth in gold. It's time Sarg take bigger role and they are confident in his abilities

Seems like a panic move by Tampa ... more patience and they could have maybe gotten some value, but I imagine they want to ensure they can make a play to keep Palat without having to worry about adding an asset to McDonagh later in the off-season.

I'm shocked that they couldn't get anything of value.

That is bad news for Muzzin's market value.

They had the cap space.

Just have to hope Duchene is back, and it wasn't just a blip.

They can afford to re-up Forsberg, and might even be a Forsberg incentive to stay.

Their forward situation is a mess. In addition to Forsberg, they need another high-end forward to really move the needle. Maybe a dark horse for Gaudreau? Poile might not care about these long-term deals if he thinks he won't be around for much longer

Maybe opens up more teams to trade Muzzin, if they want to🤔

I agree that this is no longer an elite blueline. That’s why I think it’s dumb to move him just for cap space. They could have moved Killorn if they wanted to sign Palat. Neither one of those guys is even close to as valuable as McDonagh though.

The only reason they could have possibly traded McDonagh was to make sure they had room to sign Cirelli, Sergachev, and Cernak next summer. Buying out Meyers and replacing him with something significant doesn’t really help accomplish that.

McDonagh picked his spot, hopefully everyone is happy.

He played over 22 minutes a game in the playoffs and regular season.

He'll be there with Ekholm and Josi.

Not a bad top 3 eh?

Josi had 98 points. How do you get 98 points as a D? And not win any hardware

That's pretty good D indeed along with their Goalie. I guess they want to win 1-0 every game

Tampa said they’d work with Ryan in terms of finding him the best fit. He clearly wanted Nashville and Tampa made it happen regardless of the return.

Not sure what the heck Nashville is doing with that trade though when they have Josi and Ekholm on the left side in their top 4

Sure McD is a great third pairing option to have but it's not cost effective.

Tampa definitely avoided having to pay someone to take a bad contract which is a gain but it does hurt their win-now ability. McD could decline like Muzzin though soon.

McDonagh has 4 more years at $6,75 AAV, he's 33 and had a full NTC.

Muzzin is the same age, but cheaper and only has 2 more years.

It’s one thing to load up on points as part of an offensive unit, but Josi has led Nashville in scoring 3 years running now…
