1. A trade around Robertson + for Bertuzzi.
2. Sign Evander Kane in FA
3. Sign Boris Katchouk in FA
4. Sign Curtiz Lazar in FA
5. Bring one of either Blackwell or Spezza back.

Kane - Mathews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Nylander
Bunting - Kampf - Marlies xxx
Katchouk - Blackwell/Spezza - Lazar

Kane is the only player i would be interested. But hes going to for 5 million long term

He has proven he can stay out of trouble and can still play

I think he resigns with Oilera

Teams will just look at his production which has been good and was good in SJ. Now that he is back in the NHL mix I don't think GM's will care as much when it comes to the off-ice issues.
Don’t get me wrong i would sign him but if he did get into toruble I wouldn’t be surprised. I thought he was worth the risk when he was available and still think he’s worth it now price pending.

His production has always been good. He hasn't been on pace for fewer than 20 goals since his rookie season in 2009-10, and he hasn't paced for fewer than 30 since 2015-16.

That's not a fleecing at all; In fact I wouldn't do it. Chychrun was really, really bad defensively this season.
He had bad defensive metrics being injured and paired with Lyubushkin for half of the season on Arizona? No way.

I’m not against Chychrun but I am concerned he’s trending towards being the next Ristolainen … big, physical d-man that can put up some points but is a liability in his own end
They aren't comparable stylistically though, aside from their big shots. Pre-breakout Theodore would be a better comparison play-style wise.

At 24 there is a lot of defensive development runway left and he'd pair unbelievably with Brodie. He can read the game, unlike Risto.

In less than 2 years your LD depth is Rielly-Sandin, so that is more of a medium-long term need than RD (Brodie, Liljegren, Niemela).

We’re going to pay a first and two assets for a guy with a career high 20 points and have him split draws with Tavares… because he’s also left handed and averages like 35% on draws?

I wonder if Washington will look to move one of those RFA goaltenders they have

I wonder if we grabbed one of them, paid him RFA money, used that plug Mrazek to pair with him and continued to develop the two young guys we had as backups this season

It's a dice roll but it would save assets and we could allocate money to different areas rather than goaltending

I could see it. Samsonov has good potential.

Problem is going into Austons last year with u steady goaltending. I don’t see how dubas does that. I think we pay all of the futures for Gibson personally.

If we had Austin locked up I would say go for it

Willie to Columbus for Jenner +. $3M cap saving for a center signed for 4 more years. And I know many will hate it but Domi is a erious buy low candidate who is a lot bettet on the dot than Kerfoot.

I could see Washington making a move to try and bring in someone more proven. Don't know how good of a trade match we'd be though as I think we'd be wise to follow suit in that regard.

In the most realistic situation, who could we get as our “Kawhi move”?Who do you like as a potential player to bolster the roster?

— Ronan Cook (@Cookser4) May 18, 2022

Great question.

Despite GM Kyle Dubas’s reassertion of his belief in his assembled talent, I do believe the GM will at least explore changes at forward, defence and in goal.

Now, the Kawhi thing is an imperfect parallel. I don’t see an MVP on the market, and one basketball player can influence the outcome way more than one hockey player. (Otherwise, Connor McDavid would have multiple rings by now.) Further, hockey managers are generally a conservative lot, hesitant to part with their stars for someone else’s.

Hence, those ultra-rare Taylor Hall or P.K. Subban or Patrik Laine blockbusters will feed us headlines for months.

Prime William Nylander — scorching-hot off a career-best 34-goal, 80-point season — could return a haul, and he’s the closest thing the Leafs have to a DeMar DeRozan. (Jake Muzzin and Alexander Kerfoot, members of the extended leadership group, should also hold some value on the trade market.)

Should Dubas dare the big splash, Vancouver’s J.T. Miller — the NHL’s only top-10 scorer who could conceivably move — is the name I like most.

No clue if they’re available, but for fun: How about trading for Timo Meier or Nikolaj Ehlers or Dylan Larkin while their salaries are less than their worth?

Dubas had interest in Jakob Chychrun, whose cap hit is beautiful. Does he take another stab it now?

Is Tyler Bertuzzi’s vaccination status too big of a hurdle to revisit those trade conversations?

What about a stud right-shot defender such as Colton Parayko out of St. Louis?
Fans should crave more size on the back end.

John Gibson’s All-Star pedigree between the pipes is enticing.

Alternatively, Dubas could free cap space and go shell out on a veteran UFA. Kris Letang, John Klingberg, Evgeni Malkin, or Filip Forsberg would make major waves.

David Perron, Darcy Kuemper, Andrew Copp or Vincent Trocheck less so.

We don’t really need another scoring center. Sure it would be nice, but we have limited cap space and it’s not a priority.

We need a goalie, some beef of the blueline, and playoff style wingers.

We're going to pay a 1st & two assets for a guy who's 22, has a low cap hit, had a career high 20 pts (all even strength or shorthanded) in 36 games in defensive role, & can play all 3 forward positions.

His faceoff average is brutal, but it's not unheard of for a winger (even the same handedness) to take a large percentage of faceoffs, particularly the more critical o-zone & d-zone draws. He could just as easily play LW but could slide Tavares to the wing as well.

Texier is a very good & versatile 22 year old forward, if you've ever watched him or taken a look at his underlying numbers.

Nothing against Texier. He ain't worth that.

Yeah, Texier is the super fast guy with horse blinders. The guy is Kapanen 2.0 at best.

Can't wait to see Luke Schenn finally with the Leafs again
Along with some other one year contracts like Subban

Dubas will sign Corey Perry, except by now he would be washed up

Schenn, Subban, Perry....Just like how this was 2014

I am moving to the Tavares to the wing camp. Jenner is also great on the dot and his cap hit is only $250k more than Kerf so if Willie and Kerf are out for Jenner they have $6.5M towards a goalie/winger. If they blow an asset and move Mrazek that's over $10M. I would like improvement on the D but I don't see an obvious target. Chychrun is interesting if last season is ignored but with with Mo and Gio thats three kind of similar guys and it probably means moving Muzz who is most of the sand on their D. I think they need to improve the D on the right but who is available?

He's never had any on ice production issues. His teammates usually just don't like him and his personal issues just creep up all over the place.

But yeah, if we had a time machine that mid season add probably would have changed the season for us.
