Hey if they want to give out 4M to Liljegren or Sandin, that's perfectly fine.

I'd gamble 7-8 years x 4M for Liljegren though right now. Not sure I would on Sandin.
I completely agree - I think the M. Petterson full contract 3.5Mx6 would be perfect for Liljegren. I just don't think the Leafs can afford it right now.

If your giving Lily that much Keefe has got to go. Can't be scratching a 4 million dollar defender.

All this talk of the Leafs version of Kawhi Leonard got me thinking. The most shocking culture shock type trade for a superstar I could think of would be Brad Marchand.

Grew up a Leaf fan, regularly trolls the Leafs, tortured us in the playoffs. Complete rat and competitor and the opposite of our team make up. If Bergeron retires it could be the end of the Bruins as we know it. Marchand is also cheap.

Our outgoing DeMar would be Nylander, who goes to Boston to be reunited with Pastrnak.

This is just for laughs, and a complete video game so don’t take it too seriously. But I think that scenario is the most Kawhi like trade I can think of.

Yeah, I don't think they would do that. Liljegren can't be sitting moving forward regardless if he signs a long-term or short-term deal.

Same for Sandin really.

If the Leafs/Dubas/Keefe don't trust those 2 players to play bigger/harder/regular minutes moving forward, then you should look at trading them.

Agreed. If you don't trust Lily at 23 when are you going to trust him. Personally I don't think he has put up the production or has the track record/contract status to get 4 million but I get the idea of wanting to tie him down longterm.

The leafs need to move away from the extremely sheltered 3rd pairing model. It helps the defenders get used to the NHL I guess but then their develop stagnates and they either stop developing or are thrown to the wolves in the top 4 who see much harder matchups.

After watching them this series, I don't think "grit" or "toughness" really encapsulates what they need.

What they need is actually quite simple. They need guys who will forecheck hard, lay big hits on the opposing defenders and battle in tight spaces (around the net). But they also need to be good enough to play regular shifts against top 9 lines.
You just explained grit and toughness

I do think Sandin and Liljegren have to be regulars next season full time and when it matters in the playoffs. These guys have been over cooked, they should be developing into top-4 minute eaters, passing players like Muzzin and Holl on the depth chart.

I was thinking this as well. Also thought about Crosby coming here if Malkin & Letang both leave and Sid gets pissed off at management.

Thought about this also today, because we discussed about it and couldn't find suitable option. I think Marchand is perfect example. Top of my head would thought about Toews or Kopitar also, but those wouldn't be as polarizing than trading for Marchand!

Don't resign

Mik

Trade
Holl
Engval
kerfoot
Mrazek

Ufa
Lub love what he brings to our team. Would love to find another one like him.

DesLauriers big banger can fight

Nick Paul no because of the goals he scored in game 7. Big winger likes to hit some skill.

Corey Perry I've wanted him the last 2 yrs.

CJ mentions that it is unlikely that Dubas let’s Keefe go to get a guy like Trotz.

That’s disappointing.

Yeah we can't be blocking them now. They are young NHL d man and it's time to see how good they are. You give them a big role next year and if they struggle, you add at the deadline otherwise trust these two.

Quite a pending UFA class:

Malkin, Giroux, Kessel, Bergeron, MAF, Subban, Gaudreau, Forsberg, Letang

And obviously some of those guys aren’t what they were. Just some big names

There was talk he could be available if they lost that Carolina series. I 100% consider that move.

I thought about Giroux on RW for JT...could be fun.

I’ll be really disappointed if Gio isn’t re-signed. The D core stabilized immensely when he was added.
I'd like to see him return as well. The potential stumbling block with that is the team's comfort level in having Sandin play on the right side for the season.

Willie for Marchand and Marner for Sid.
Double bet on Kawhi move

Sandin 100% should be dealt has basically no real long term role in the organization

He needs to be part of the offer brining in Chychuran whose more similar to muzzin just younger and faster and can play a similar role vs Sandin whose ceiling is a similar role to rielly but not as good a player

Lilijgren's play this year makes him worthy of keeping and to win over Sandin

Sandin should be moved on from

IF Nylander has to go I don't see a clear upgrade and I don't think the Leafs need that. I think the target should be Jeannot. Jeannot is the next Tom Wilson but he has already matched his career high in goals and doesn't have the suspension history. Jeannot spent 75% of his 5v5 minutes this year with Sissons and 65% of his 5v5 minutes with Sissons/Trenin. He also averaged 2:30/game on the PK and only 40 PP minutes this season. He would be primed for an uptick in points if paired with Matthews/Tavares and more than 30 seconds/game on the PP (Jeannot has nearly the same PPG/60 as Nylander). On top of this he is paid 800k next year so the Leafs save 6M on the cap for 1 year. The incentive for NSH to do this is to get a top line talent/swede into the fold to help convince Forsberg to stay.

Proposal:
Jeannot
NSH 1st (17th)
Glass

for

Nylander
TOR 1st (28th)
